I thought she was younger too

When Maura calls Richard ‘father’, it’s like she’s confessing 😄
I get it with Jane abit, maybe I’m similar. If some bloke said to me that I couldn’t do the lifting because of my age I’d want to swing for him. She’s fed up & bored. I like her.

Its not 'some bloke' though its Barry! He is such a nice and genuine guy. And he didn't say that she couldn't do it, he said that he was thinking it might be more challenging for her. He was obviously trying to do the right thing and save her from having to lug stuff again as she had already just done the logs. I don't dislike her but do think she overreacted over that.

Yes I know, he’s a lovely man. I’m just saying that I wouldn’t want him presuming I couldn’t do something that I would know I’m more than capable of. I like Barry, but I totally get why the ‘because you’re 62’ remark didn’t go down well.
The other day he was flexing his stomach and getting Danny to hit him. Imagine if Danny had said, steady on old timer, not bloody likely, go and sit yourself down.
It was ageist, but doesn’t mean he’s not nice, he’s just of his time and so is Jane.

Turmerictolly · 26/11/2024 12:11

I think Maura looks really young without make up, definitely could pass for mid to late 20's.

EvilsElsasPetSnowman · 26/11/2024 12:15

I think it’s a really hard one for Barry and James, and women in general, because you can’t please everyone. @augustusglupe sats she wouldn’t wanna be withheld from something due to her age and sex. Which is of course fine. But as a woman, I accept I’m not as strong as men so I really wouldn’t appreciate being made the carry heavy stuff, I’d fine it maybe even a bit provocative like my sensibilities are being pandered to. Which is perhaps why Jane should reign it in a bit, as there’s no wrong stance

martinisforeveryone · 26/11/2024 12:22

Re Barry being ageist, he's 63 himself. He'd definitely have been raised to be very respectful of women, but he probably chose his words badly. He probably meant let some of these younger folk do the physical, especially considering he wouldn't be doing anything himself. But yes, he should have left it that you've just completed the physical task and now someone else has to take on that role.

Again, I don't think he didn't presume she couldn't do it. I don't think it was that. I think he was just trying to save her from having to do another 'lifting' type chore because it might be more challenging for her and he maybe didn't think it was fair for her to be doing another.

He is of the age where chivalry was alive and it was obvious he didn't mean anything by it. He was just trying to be kind and to do what he thought was the right thing I think. Maybe he shouldn't have mentioned that her age may have been a factor, but I do think she was being a little sensitive.

Thing about Barry leaving it at she’d just completed the physical task is that he really doesn’t appear to have any ‘side’, so I don’t think it would occur to him to not say something in case it came across wrong. Which I really
like about him. He seems a genuinely nice man.

ConstantlyFuriosa · 26/11/2024 12:37

I watched Sunday night and last night’s episodes back to back and have softened a little on Dean. His screams during the trial with Colleen seemed genuine and really made me laugh. Then he was super game for the beanstalk trial. I don’t think he’s been putting it on that he’s scared so he could get trials. He really has been. And as a PP said, he’s more used to them now and knows he won’t get hurt so he’s relaxing a bit more. I don’t think he’s been acting to get air time!

That said, the morning singing is really fucking selfish and I’d hate it, just like Tulisa.

Who's James?!

ThePoshUns · 26/11/2024 12:41

Who's James?!

Oh god, I meant Danny 🤣

OldFred · 26/11/2024 14:06

They've done really well on answering the Deals on Wheels questions this year.
There was one year where they kept getting them wrong 😅

Maura looked petrified sitting on the Fright Bus.
Really looking forward to seeing Jane others doing the trials.

OldFred · 26/11/2024 14:11

Tulisa's toned arms mental arithmetic skills are 👌 👏
Melvin was in awe!
When he attempted a high 5 from Kev 😆
Hilarious just how ecstatic and grateful they are for two pringles each, or one 'Victorian child' boiled sweet or half a marshmallow 😂

Lorrymum · 26/11/2024 16:26

I have to admit I have no idea what scissoring is (obviously a sheltered childhood). I thought it was something that happened at the hairdressers!

EvilsElsasPetSnowman · 26/11/2024 16:32

Scissoring looks like an awful lot of work. I don’t know if I could be arsed

ThePoshUns · 26/11/2024 16:54

lol @EvilsElsasPetSnowman ! I thought I'd completely missed another camp mate!

ConstantlyFuriosa · 26/11/2024 16:55

I always thought Scissoring was a bit of an urban myth, perpetuated by the kind of man who can not conceive of any other way to do sex than the bumping together of the lower swimsuit area.

OldFred · 26/11/2024 17:14

It's stationery guys... ✂️ ✂️

Me too

Had to google urban myths

OP posts:
MadisonAvenue · 26/11/2024 18:09

I only knew of it because of how Scissor Sisters got their name.

LifeisNOTlikeemmerdalefarm · 26/11/2024 19:05

@MadisonAvenue I've learnt something on MN.

Nannylovesshopping · 26/11/2024 19:06

I had to google too!

KayVess · 26/11/2024 19:16

Should I be disappointed in myself that I didn’t have to google and knew what it meant?

Youllnevergetabetterbitofbutteronyourknife · 26/11/2024 19:24

@KayVess no, don't be. I knew too! 😉

HelenWheels · 26/11/2024 19:28

i think i can work out what scissoring is but it doesnt strike me as rewarding, but i am innocent in that area
