I couldn't see a thread on this.

Gentle sitcom about a man who visits his 74 year old Dad a year after he was widowed.

I found it both funny and poignant. I will admit to shedding a few tears. Really hope there is a second series.

Only became aware of it today but plan to watch on catch up.

Awrite · 23/11/2024 22:28

I hope you enjoy it. The leads are Rab C Nesbitt and Gary, Tank Commander. They are both excellent in this.

DH literally just said I should watch this. He cited a book of passwords, a trumpet, Christmas lights that can be mended - I think it may be too close to the bone for me.

TheDowagerCountessofPembroke · 23/11/2024 23:07

I watched the first one. It’s like watching my dad.

mewkins · 23/11/2024 23:10

I really enjoyed this!! Howard from Fresh Meat. 😁

OatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 23/11/2024 23:12

I laughed and cried. A lovely series.

Greenfingers37 · 23/11/2024 23:18

Love Greg McHugh so gave it a go. Not Two Doors Down funny but certainly very watchable.

Foxlover46 · 23/11/2024 23:21

I found it by mistake just looking for something to watch and really enjoyed it too

I nearly wrote that it was 'close to the bone' for me. Aye.

I watched a bit of it , loved the bit where they're top'n'tailing on the sofa bed and he asked his Dad "Is your Chiropodist dead"? when he has his feet at his head .
Then the bit about "You;re wearing pyjamas tonight " when the Dad complains he cannot sleep in them.

bizzey · 24/11/2024 03:26

Loved it !
My favourite line was about the hearing..

" I can hear perfectly fine /nothing wrong with my hearing.....I just can't hear what you are saying "

I had to put both lines as I can't remember now what was said in the show ...or what it is the my mum says 😂😂..

I know I was nodding along to everything though.

I will be watching 1 X week .

Awrite · 24/11/2024 07:52

Yeah @bizzey, I repeated that line to my dh. 😆

I've watched the whole lot and it stays good. A decent amount of one liners and the characters remain likeable.

I think the whole dynamic of needing help but not accepting it, needing company but not wanting to ask it of your children really resonates with me.

Me too, a mixture of having been there and can see it coming with in laws.

I like that all episodes were on iPlayer.

I enjoyed this far more than I thought I would.

SirChenjins · 24/11/2024 08:21

I’ve just watched the whole series and absolutely loved it - very tender and poignant in places, but so funny. Perfect casting too. Anyone know if there’s going to be a second series? The ending suggested there would be.

maras2 · 24/11/2024 08:37

Me and DH watched it last night. It was so good that I was tempted to stream it but managed to control myself as it was late and we had just come home from a party.
Just loved it.

Boyce · 24/11/2024 08:38

I'd not heard about this, we just had the telly on after Have I Got News for You.
I have my husband and my mum with dementia. Very familiar stuff, especially the smelly kitchen!
We loved it. My husband was really happy as he'd "seen it before" and was clearly looking forward to watching it all again ❤️

Merrilydancing · 24/11/2024 08:41

I have only seen the first episode and really enjoyed it. The whole fridge/date thing was so true!

HurdyGurdy19 · 24/11/2024 09:00

My friend told me about this. I wouldn't have watched, as I don't like Rab C. Nesbitt and having Gregor Fisher in it would have put me off.

After she said it was good, I found it on player, and ended up watching three episodes.

Very poignant, and will resonate with a lot of people.

But no one has mentioned Marmite in the fridge! Is that "normal"? Ours is definitely in a cupboard.

I was a bit confused by the topping and tailing on the sofa bed, as the house didn't look as though it was one bedroomed, but I suppose any other rooms will be cluttered or not have bed(s).

HurdyGurdy19 · 24/11/2024 09:09

Also, the pyjamas thing is lifted from Friends, when Joey and Chandler have to share their sofa bed. Joey can't get comfortable and says he doesn't wear pyjamas. Chandler says "well you're gonna". Almost word for word. Only difference is Joey and Chandler weren't topping and tailing.

deeahgwitch · 24/11/2024 09:52

I noticed the Marmite in the fridge @HurdyGurdy19 Smile

No Marmite in our house. 🤮

RubyJack · 24/11/2024 10:11

@HurdyGurdy19 the dad's bed broke.
