Just finished series 2.
It's just wonderful. So witty and true to Bolton!
Siobhan Finneran was sublime. She's an incredible actress.

Hope there will be another series as it's just got stronger, but realise Grandma Joan leaves a gap that will need filling.

I loved it but think this series was the end as the final bits showed Sophie/Alma becoming successful as a stand up.

I adored it too. Just brilliant. Grandma Joan steals the show, and the issues highlighted around Alma’s Mum’s care are done so well.

I really loved it. It ended beautifully I think. I had a good cry and a good laugh and I loved the cameos appearing for Grandma. Cant get enough of charity shop sue!

I can't believe she's married to Gollum!

Think there's still scope for comedy as she rises.

I didn't know this!!!! Off to Google!

JimmyYellowstone · 12/11/2024 20:59

They've been married for years.

When they were sat on the benches in series two they said she looked like Gollum which was a nice little nod.

I certainly hope we see more of her whatever form.

Just watched Ludwig and Sophie W is in it.

Absolutely loved it! Cried my eyes out in season 2 (close to home). It’s a perfect blend of dry humour. You’d expect Alma to be awful but she’s just she a lovely, positive person. It’s heart warming.

Just finished this today! So funny, touching and so, so real! Absolutely loved all of the characters, what a fab casting and honestly so well done. Siobhan F was absolutely brilliant, never seen her in this type role before. I cried so much towards the end, the way they showed the real social issues caused by the government and the devastating effect it has had made me so sad and angry. I hope she writes another similar drama, showing normal people and normal lives.

Both series of this have been amazing television. Clever, funny, sad, and full of beautifully drawn female characters. I'd love to see more like this.

GirlWithTheGhostTattoo · 18/11/2024 14:51

I loved every moment of this.
Shout out to Right Said Fred for being utter arses and refusing SW permission to use 'I'm too sexy' for the funeral scene, which was the song they actually used. Miserable bastards. Hardly serious performers themselves are they?

Knobheads!

Incredible programme! I can’t believe there isn’t more chat about it. It’s hilarious and also heart breaking. Such an amazing achievement by Sophie Willan. What a talent.
