Help me find this TV series

DH says he was desperate to watch it and I made a mental note to buy the box set.

I've forgotten the bloody name though. I'm gutted.

It's the same type genre as Endeavour and Foyles War I think! Set in the same era.

Foyles War is set in the 40s, Endeavour is set in the late-60s and early-70s.

I agree that Inspector George Gently (set in the 60s) is a good possibility, but "same era" is proving to be a bit vague as there are two decades between the two examples you gave. Can you remember anyone that's in it?
