Rivals - anyone watching?

Loved the book and was looking forward to it, but knew I'd be disappointed ☹️

RCB is dark haired, Taggie has red hair, David Tennant wildly miscast as Tony Baddingham, and condensing the story so it bears no resemblance to the book.

Any other Cooper-philes similarly outraged?

Declan does drive an absolutely filthy mini, though!

Not sure about watching it - it’s my favourite JC book and seeing the cast I just don’t understand why they have been chosen?! I probably will give it a try though, just fully expecting it to be dreadful.

One of my favourite books but not too excited about this. Feels like David Tennant - who I cannot stand - has been given the main part when in the books RCB is the main character. The actor playing RCB is badly miscast. Ill give it a go but already feeling disappointed!

Watching ep1 now - Cameron cook is supposed to have very short hair and be tiny but they’ve got her personality right!! Can’t imagine any sexual chemistry between her and DT though! Love Aiden turner as Declan though especially His ancient and filthy mini! Taggie should have an Irish accent though and Tony baddingham had a boy and girl

Omg the Rupert guy looks like Jaws from James Bonds love child...I'm sure he is lovely but not what I would expect for that character.

I was surprised at the choice of Alex Hassell as RCB. I don't want to be rude about him but he absolutely doesn't fit my idea of the character.

It's gloriously bad. The hairstyles are amazing. The moustaches! I can't remember the books in that much detail so I don't have many expectations.

Nope, although I'm really not sure who I would cast.

I loved it, especially the music and the clothes. I thought Danny Dyer was well cast too and so was Maud. I’ve binged all the episodes.
Having said that, nothing could improve on the books. The absolute joy of getting a new Jilly Cooper book and finding out what was happening with Rupert.

I never read the books. I watched episode 2 and hated every single one of the characters* 😂 I suspect it is simply not the series for me! Not having read the books and thus not having any preconceived ideas of the characters, I thought the RCB actor fitted his apparent character. He seemed to have the right face for a supercilious sneer.

The soundtrack was superb though. Not enough to make me want to watch the rest though.

*That's not quite true, I did like Aidan Turner but that might have just been the accent

I don't think he works as some one who would make any woman go weak at the knees. Perfectly nice looking chap but I think miscast

Personal opinion I would have cast Rufus Sewell as RCB , but other opinions are available 😊

Ladies, it's an adaptation. If you want everything to be exactly as you pictured it, re-read the book. Quibbling over who's hair colour or length is wrong is beneath you.

We thought RCB looked like Buzz Lightyear

Alex Hassell is 44 & Bella McLean 23!

RCB is 38, I think, and Taggie is 19 (am just rereading the book!)
