SCD: anyone else not watching?

I’m not watching this year as I’m not convinced they have changed enough to be looking after the celebrities welfare. To keep the standards rising there is more and more pressure to perform well which is physically and emotionally tough. Which is how the bullying came about.

I don’t think it was just those 2 professionals but think Richard Cole is right that strictly has a dark heart.

This has really put my off, which is a shame as I loved the glitter and the glam as the nights draw in and the weather gets miserable.

anyone else feel the same?

I am not watching because they halved the size of the live band during Covid and never reinstated them. They use a prerecorded track for all but the rhythm section. #keep music live!

I’ve been getting bored with it the past few seasons but all the stories have really put me off - it’s not lighthearted escapism if there’s nastiness going on.

MorrisZapp · 01/10/2024 19:40

I'm watching for the first time in years because I love Chris McAusland.

KarmaKat · 01/10/2024 19:49

I’m not watching anymore. Of course it was always fake smiles but I kind of got swept up in the fun but now it seems a bit off & bleak.

Love Claudia though!

Raspberrymoon49 · 01/10/2024 19:55

Same old, same old year after year, haven’t watched for a decade

Floralnomad · 01/10/2024 19:56

I haven’t watched for years , I think Bruce was still on last time I was a regular viewer . I did drop in for Will Young a few years back but stopped again when he dropped out .

3teens2cats · 01/10/2024 19:56

Used to love it back in the day but can't stand what it has turned into. Too fake, too much squealing and screaming. It just feels so forced and false. Or maybe I have just turned into a grumpy old woman, it could be that.....

SunshineonLeaves · 01/10/2024 20:47

Claudia is much better on other shows, she’s wasted on Strictly. I agree it’s got quite annoying the past few series or perhaps it always has been.

Rubyandscarlett · 01/10/2024 21:22

I usually really enjoy it but am bored already this year - too many couples and the same old comments week after week.

MeandBobbyMcGoo · 01/10/2024 21:25

I'm not watching - feels too contrived

Celebrities can be abused too. Especially if they are trying to break through from a niche role to a wider one, they are open to exploitation. TV and film has always had a seedy underside and is known to be very cutthroat and you need a thick skin but the culture at strictly seems to be to ignore if not condone abuse.

It has taken the shine off for me, as I’m not sure the changes are actually real or just on the surface.

i dont normally watch at this stage, it starts at 6.15!

i am surprised there were never chaperones in rehearsal and training.
i wonder if there are now? for the protection of all

Not managed to get into it at all this year.

I was a fan but I liked it for the ballroom dancing which is getting less and less attention. Most dances feel like a show dance now. Trying to use popular music that is very hard to fit to the style of the dance. I miss the in-between dancing bits where they used to talk about dance steps and techniques rather than personal celeb drama stories.

I really wish dancers have stopped behaving like some hostesses (hosts?) always hanging off the arm of the celebrity, hugging, and pretending to be in awe with them. Especially as most dancers now are the actual celebrity. For a show that thinks they are moving with the times (all the drag/ queer/ same sex couples), I find it very old fashioned that the dancer (teacher!) is physically all over the celebrity.

I find the botox/cosmetic surgery just hard to digest now. A bit upset they are trying to normalise the plastic look by having so many people with so much work on their faces. (I admit that's not a SCD issue per se).
And definitely had enough of the orange tan - very out of date.

I don't know why they have so many (male) celebs with questionable history - is it that hard to find people who are known only for the right reasons?

And of course, all the recent stories do spoil it.

KarmaKat · 05/10/2024 18:39

Ok just switched it on and it just feels so weird. They’ve upped the cheese.

Wish Pointless Celeb was on 😞

Newestname002 · 05/10/2024 18:54

I used to love the whole strictly experience. Main show, Sunday show, It takes two during the week and, more recently, the blogs. I'm so incredibly bored now - it could do with being taken off air for a few years until they find the zing back. Also if/when it returns to air, the over-long pre-dancing cringe plus the long period post-dance with Claudia needs to be reduced and tightened up as they take away from what I prefer - which is dancing. I also miss a lot of the original professional dancers. It's just so dull. 🌹

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 05/10/2024 19:15

It is so stale. I've thought that for a couple of years and hoped they would revamp the format, but no. That, and the lack of care for celebrities made it a definite no this year. I'm not missing it

AnnieMcFanny · 05/10/2024 19:21

Me. I lost my taste for it about 5 years ago and nothing I read in the press about it these days would tempt me back.

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · 05/10/2024 20:18

I'm not watching for the first time since it started. Midsomer Murders, the John Nettles earlier series for me.

Malbecfan · 05/10/2024 20:37

Watched a bit when it 1st came on, however many years ago. Thought it was overhyped crap then. Nothing since has changed my mind, I also agree with @Marv1nGay3

MaggieFS · 05/10/2024 20:50

I used to watch religiously, dabbled last year, and won't bother this year. I've been put off since they started brining in more and more ringers and people were getting sevens and eights in the first week. The progression and achievement just wasn't the same, yet somehow at the same time I rarely found myself bowled over. A few years ago, whilst on mat leave, I rewatched every episode of the series with Danny Mac, and really was glued. Now it's all about the fecking "journey". Tess is annoying. Shirley is not impartial. I just cba and the bad press has been my final straw.
