I thought thought the last n season of Traitors NZ was dreadful but this new season looks really good. No screamers, good host @nd interesting range of contestors

Must confess I’ve binged watched up to episode 5. Obviously not the polish or budget of the UK or US series but very entertaining so far. One minute I’m rooting for the faithfuls, next the traitors! Worth a watch.

RedToothBrush · 05/10/2024 10:07

I very much enjoyed this.

The selection of the contestants seems very different to the US and UK.

Mainly because they didn't appear to be full of brain dead idiots throughout.

There was only one villain and he wasnt too hateable. I wasn't at the point of wanting to hurdle things at the TV and shouting at the Muppets for this series. (This is a good thing).

RedToothBrush · 05/10/2024 10:12

Also the last challenge was very good. Low budget but works well. I hope they do something similar for the next UK series, though perhaps in an earlier episode (for more potential fallout to filter through).

Are you speaking of the one on bbc3 currently?

I have watched episode 1-3 of that. I didn't realise that is season 2, I assumed it was first one -I saw 2 Australian ones on bbc3 last year or so.

Its got to be NZ season 1. They comment on the choice of host being brilliant in the first episode (none of the contestants knew) and its on the traitors wiki as season one....

(contains spoilers early on but its the series currently on iplayer).

The Traitors NZ/Season 1

The Traitors NZ Season 1 is the first season of The Traitors NZ that premiered on August 4, 2023, and aired every Monday and Tuesday at 7:30pm. The existence of a New Zealander version of The Traitors was first revealed on November 3, 2022, with Warner...

Thanks.

Let's assume this stays at bbc3 pace (so episode 5 is latest one)

I am enjoying it. Of course no huge benefit to getting traitors out early as they just replace. Then less to go on ad that person had been 80% faithful so far.

People seem more mature here? Mostly 40s/50s? More pleasant too.I like it.

TitsInAbsentia · 05/10/2024 20:46

I meant to look this up as wasn't sure if I'd already seen it...I'll be back!

TitsInAbsentia · 06/10/2024 21:22

I have seen it 😂 My traitors obsession clearly went in to overdrive!

LittleLlama · 08/10/2024 16:55

I am really enjoying this series. I have not watched all the episodes but based on what I have seen the focus is much more on the contestants rather than the host. The contestants seem interesting and thoughtful. I liked the first twist at the start of episode one, it really set the scene for the game. It is interesting, although the game is the same, how different it is from the USA version. Can’t wait to watch it all!

ellebelli · 08/10/2024 18:56

Oooo thanks for the heads up!I have a Survivior (Australia) obsession right now but always happy to watch something else similar.

burnoutbabe · 17/10/2024 18:12

I have finished it -no spoilers

Overall it was very nice and full of very nice people. So that was refreshing!

DrivingThePlot · 18/10/2024 20:36

DH & I finished watching it this evening. We both loved it. Some really lovely people taking part, no-one stood out as one to dislike, not even the choice of Traitors.

I liked their host, Paul Henry, too - he wasn't someone I'd ever seen before, but I thought he was good, not OTT like Alan Cumming in the US version.

ProgressivePilgrim · 19/10/2024 11:09

I just finished watching it. A very satisfying series overall. I don't want to give anything away, so I'll wait till spoilers are allowed before discussing in more detail!

I think spoilers should be allowed. The show was broadcast on uk tv and ended a week ago.

Maybe we post spoilers from Monday onwards.

Yes, maybe if we announce a spoilers onwards post?

Btw, are we all on the same page about the series? OP said series 2; but I'm pretty sure it's series 1 I just watched? I don't think series 2 is on iPlayer yet? I loved it anyway, whichever it was!

burnoutbabe · 19/10/2024 11:34

Yes this is series1. I shall report thread and ask to add -season 1 -beware spoilers.

ellebelli · 19/10/2024 18:52

I have finished this now, Lots of nice interesting characters.
However compared to the finales of the UK and the Aus ones I felt this fell a bit flat somehow...anyone agree???

Actually, I loved the final few minutes! Sam seemed so lovely, and I'm very much team faithful. Lovely to see the faithfuls win fair and square without a 'parting gift' bombshell.
There were enough twists and turns, and the faithful victory was by no means a foregone conclusion. Brooke very nearly pulled off a traitors victory. I was really happy with the ending. Well deserved 😊

HalleLouja · 21/10/2024 19:54

I have really enjoyed the NZ version. I wasn't sure at the start but it was a grower. I do love Colin. He was the most fun.

Sam's hair Grin

burnoutbabe · 21/10/2024 19:58

I enjoyed though I wanted Brooke to win.

I feel he actually did something the whole time.

The 2 winners mostly failed to spit traitors until the very end. Do less deserving.

And Brooke did seem nice and decent.

Being able to know exactly how many traitors there were was a bad thing. And trying to kill one of the last 2 women and failing was silly. They could have pretended there was a seduction instead? If they had killed Sam or king that last killing, Then it would have ended very differently I think.

ProgressivePilgrim · 22/10/2024 07:05

Brooke seemed like a nice guy, and great he was planning to give to charity. But, I actually don't think he was that great a traitor. Daniel was the much better traitor in my personal opinion; and it was really Brooke's fault that Daniel got ousted, due to his idea of recruiting Robbie to sacrifice. Which was a bad move for all sorts of reasons.
I think the faithful victory was very well deserved. Really hard for the faithfuls, as the exemplary and outspoken detectives like Brodie will be a threat to the traitors, who ultimately hold the power. Then the gullible ones get hoodwinked by the devious traitors. Hard to get the balance right. I felt the two winners managed a good balance, and I was very happy they won 😊

Watched this aages ago. Nice to see an older, intelligent cast. BBC take note!
