I loved a bit of Jilly Cooper in my youth, and want to watch Rivals, so will be signing up for Disney Plus
Please recommend other things to watch on there. I like drama, thrillers, some comedy, and the occasional ‘real life’ documentary. Enjoy a bit of fantasy and sci-fi, too.
Telly I’ve enjoyed off the top of my head:
West Wing
The Crown
Better Call Saul
Homeland
Ozark
the thing on cheerleaders (rage watched this)
Loudermilk
Fisk
Big Bang & Young Sheldon

So please let me know what to watch on Disney Plus as it’s a bit pricey just for Rivals (have got Netflix and Amazon Prime already…)

Only Murders in the Building - watch season 1 first as they're all linked.
Shardlake

Both really good.

Rimtimtagidimdim · 30/09/2024 15:26

Only Murders in the Building
The Bear
Modern Family
New Girl

StudioCreate · 30/09/2024 15:28

Criminal minds
Station 19, private practice and greys anatomy
OMITB
911 for an easy watch 😂

shellyleppard · 30/09/2024 15:30

Disney plus is £1.99 a month just now??? I think I have seen an advert online with that price

Funkyslippers · 30/09/2024 15:31

My dd recommended Dopesick though I know nothing about it

Singleandproud · 30/09/2024 15:33

Disney is the best subscription service, I have never gotten bored of their content.

OMITB
Modern Family
Criminal Minds
Quantico
Shardlake
Ghost Whisperer
Sleepy Hollow, series not film
I think I also watched Agatha Christies Murder on the Orient Express and Venice Haunting on there but it might have been prime.

tennissquare · 30/09/2024 17:19

The Americans - best series ever! I binged it during the pandemic, stars Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys.

BobnLen · 30/09/2024 18:12

The Fosters and Good Trouble

dun1urkin · 30/09/2024 19:10

Thanks everyone for your suggestions, I really appreciate it
Great to see some repeat suggestions; I’ve never heard of Only Murders in the Building / OMITB so will look that up
I’ve read some Shardlake books so deffo up for that.

@Funkyslippers Dopesick is really good; about the opioid crisis in the US but told in a narrative dramatic way (not a documentary) . Based on an excellent book.

Singleandproud · 30/09/2024 21:10

Renegade Nell is really good too and there's an Oliver Twist spin off following Dodger which is really good and original, it has the young lad from Love Actually in that never seems to age but is well into his 30s.

That offer ended on 27th September. I renewed on the last day especially for the Rivals!

dun1urkin · 30/09/2024 22:16

@Singleandproud I know what you mean about the lad from Love Actually. He looks just the same!

£12 of Tesco clubcard vouchers get you 3 months of Disney +.

BakingQueen14 · 30/09/2024 22:20

A small Light about the lady who helped Anne Frank is excellent.
Dopesick
Only Murders in the Building
Renegade Nell
The Dropout

Young sheldon is on terrestrial channels, so if you have a TV licence, you can already watch that. Just so you don't prioritise that over other things if it is already free for you.

Reservation Dogs is the best thing I have watched on Disney plus.
Also have a soft spot for the Decendants movies on the kids side.

MardiBras · 30/09/2024 22:28

Just renewed again after a break with the 1.99 offer purely to watch Rivals
The Resident is a good medical drama to watch.

DD7 is obsessed with the Descendants films!

Another free to watch is Dopesick that has been mentioned, this is on iplayer too.

Faves on Disney have been The Bear, only murders in the building

We recently watched Mr Inbetweener which was a good series too.

SheilaFentiman · 30/09/2024 22:46

Allll the Marvels, but especially Daredevil and Jessica Jones

Singleandproud · 30/09/2024 23:23

@SheilaFentiman yes, and David Tennant is fantastic in Jessica Jones

I do often wonder how these very normal British actors get into such things though. David Tennant, Martin Sheen and Martin Freeman seemingly randomly turn up in these big productions. Obviously it's because they are talented but they just seem so normal and like they could be your uncle. Olivia Coleman is so very British in Marvel Secret Invasion but she plays a semi baddy / ruthless operative very well.

maltravers · 30/09/2024 23:27

Shogun - it’s excellent, especially the female lead.

jay55 · 01/10/2024 14:20

Vogue in the 90s
