ER or bed?

Should I stay up for ER or go to bed - I'm knackered and have been up since 6am? Dilemmas, dilemmas...

Which did you choose? Bed got my vote but I have recorded it. It's gone downhill dont you think and it is repeated. For me the turning point was Lucy's death as this led to the character assassination of Carter and since he left, iy's steadily got worse. There used to be a nice balance of drama & comedy. Now it is sooo depressing. Morris is trying his best and they have thrown in Harold (the new surgeon buy, might not be his name) to help but they are trying too hard.

Personally I feel that my DVD recorder is one of the best investments we made when LO came along. Record everything we like to watch & watch when we like/can. Doesnt matter if running late for a show as she took a bit longer to go to sleep as dont have to wait for it to finish recording before watching or wakes up half way through a fav programme. Can watch something recorded while recording as well. Also didnt get caught out by the cbeebies schedule change as have a stash of ITNG on it so can do "bedtime" when need it. Have even edited a couple down to be much shorter for when running late or tired LO.

Go on. Treat yourself.

scotsgirl · 18/04/2008 15:53

Yeah, I should get something like that. I did end up staying up to watch, though I'm increasingly wondering why I bother. It really has got a bit rubbish recently. Apparently, the season they're filming now will be the last, so it looks as if everyone's got fed up with it.
I've tried to get into some of the other new 'hit American dramas', like Dirty Sexy Money, but nothing hits the spot. Quite like Big Bang Theory though.

Plotlines are so far fetched now -- thought the thing about the heart transplant was absurd.

nct73 · 18/04/2008 20:44

We keep wondering why we are still sticking with it sometimes. My Mum as well. She would always be there with cuppa ready & waiting. The other week she finished doing something mundane even tho she knew it was starting and missed the whole first half. Dont feel we can leave it as it limps towards end. Will actually be relieved when final series ends. At the mo it's like visiting a terminally ill relative.

We tried DSM but have given up. Peter 6ft under seems the same and all the "kids" are awful. Only good thing is Donald Sutherland. Greys went off the boil too and Boston Legal up the wazoo. Ugly Betty & Men in Trees are our fav newer dramas but stopped midseason due to strike. Reaper is probably fav drama actually on and have also been getting into Big Bang as on staight after. Clever little comedy. Mad Men is stunning to look at but not grabbed so much by characters. Sticking with Desp HW but not on top form. We no longer have sky one (virgin) so are waiting for friend to record a few eps of final BSG and am looking forward to Heroes restarting.

scotsgirl · 18/04/2008 21:08

nct73. Wow, you deserve a medal, or a job at Radio Times . Agree about Mad Men and Desp HW (Susan is just SO annoying).
I am currently hooked on The Apprentice, against my better judgement. It's like flamin BB - you tell yourself you just won't let yourself get sucked in then... whaddya know, there you are on a Wed night, glass in hand, shouting at the TV.

sophy - heart transplant thing - saw it coming a mile off. Mind you, didn't expect the Sam and Gates snogfest.

bed.

ER is shite.

cyteen · 19/04/2008 15:20

I must admit, I finally and forever lost patience with ER when Ray rock doctor got hit by a bus and had to have both legs amputated. The trauma upon trauma heaped on each character has become absurd, and it's so unnecessary. Like, ok, Abby gets knocked out during the prison break thing and goes into premature labour - is it really necessary for her to have to have an emergency caesarian as well? Not to mention how the fascinating and horrible long-running story arc of Sam's relationship with her ex was handled - it builds to a terrible climax, she shoots him after being raped, and then...a magical man appears and makes it all go away. FFS.

And this series, what I've seen of it, has been pure rubbish. Neela gets trampled so badly that she requires massive surgery including her chest being totally open, yet two episodes later she's back at work without a scratch? Why not just go the whole hog and have a zombie Romano working the night shift?

cyteen · 19/04/2008 15:20

Actually I would start watching again if there was a zombie Romano on board.

policywonk · 19/04/2008 15:31

LOL cyteen. You've hit the nail squarely on the head... and yet I continue to watch. I really don't have an excuse.

expatinscotland · 19/04/2008 15:36

'Like, ok, Abby gets knocked out during the prison break thing and goes into premature labour - is it really necessary for her to have to have an emergency caesarian as well?'

Yes, she also needed an emergency hysterectomy.

And she was awake on the table during the csection and the consultant was talking to her about how she might have to give her a hysterectomy.

Yeah, right.

I lost interest once Gates was introduced as a character.

Also, does ANYONE live in a place where natural sunlight is allowed through the windows on that show? Or are they all really Hobbits?

cyteen · 19/04/2008 15:48

Bollocks, I meant to type emergency hysterectomy - stupid baby brain. Thanks expat

Kimi · 19/04/2008 15:56

I love E.R but... I think Thursdays episode was the WORST I have ever seen and I HATE all the new people.

Also I want to SLAP Abbey, for god sake woman how could you cheat on Luka and why on earth do you want to hurt him by telling him, aaaarrrggghhhhhh

/ Kimi wonders off to remind self its not real.

KristinaM · 19/04/2008 16:16

kimi - i have teh same problel

was getting all upset in case abbey didnt see her baby again...cue for Dh repeating

" Kristina, its not real, its TV"

how sad am I??????

BTW whats with teh three in teh bed thing at teh beginning??? not gratuitous or anything....

Kimi · 19/04/2008 16:32

I think Abbey will tell him and he and Joe will stay with his family .

I am hoping for another bomb/gun rampage/ killer virus to get all the new ones.

As for the 3 in a bed who knows, also Sam doing Gates yuck, still he would feel left out as she has done almost everyone else, also what do these people do for child care???????
They all have these lovely T.V children that only pop up at appropriate times

Kimi · 19/04/2008 16:33

Bring back weaver [never thought I would sat those words]

scotsgirl · 19/04/2008 18:56

LOL at zombie Romano cyteen. He could join zombie Lucy and zombie Mark Green

Surely more than three staff have croaked????

I watch er in bed on my laptop with 4od (but they have tonnes of better things to watch free of charge) - that is a good compromise as I always have been up since 6am and find it difficult staying awake once kids are asleep at the moment.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 19/04/2008 19:07

I've missed loads of episodes this series; just keep forgetting it's on. I think my subconscious is telling me it's crap.

Kimi · 19/04/2008 19:51

its repeated on 4 tonight saggar

policywonk · 19/04/2008 21:08

Yup.

Crappest. Episode. Ever.
