Stephen Fry and the Machine That Made Us Monday 14 April
9:00pm - 10:00pm
BBC4
Take an enlightening stroll down medieval Europe's counterpart to Silicon Valley in the charming company of Stephen Fry. He's examining how Johannes Gutenberg came up with the most important invention after the wheel - a printing press using movable type. More than just a slice of history, Fry also enlists a group of experts to build a press. It's more difficult than it sounds since not only are there no records of the Gutenberg press, they have help from the cack-handed Fry. Careful with that box of mallets, Stephen! There's more Blue Peter-style info-tainment when he helps to make printing type and paper. This is a slight programme made watchable by Fry's engaging touch.
