The Decameron anyone?

Binge watched it over the last few days.

I don't really know what to say. Found it quite slow and a bit silly and dull for the first few episodes. Only really kept going because dd was enjoying it.

The second half was quite a change. I didn't know who I was rooting for, it kept changing. Even pampinea at times as I felt sorry for her.

By the end my emotions were all over the place. The death surrounded them relentlessly. Misia hanging on by a thread. I thought the actress who was in Derry Girls was pretty good at portraying that broken desperation.

Anyone else?

We watched the first episode last night , I really enjoyed it something a bit different I thought .

I've seen this advertised, is it serious or comedy? Thanks

myladyjane · 29/07/2024 17:43

It's both. Some funny, silly bits but other quite dark stuff.

I know the reviews aren't generally great and that is partly because it can't make up its mind.

It was a no from us.
Best bit was the illustrated sequence, downhill from then.
It failed to be amusing, even though it was allegedly a comedy.

I agree with the OP - the first half of the series dragged a bit and the characters were a bit annoying. It got a lot better in the second half and I enjoyed it a lot more. There was much more action and more emotional bonds were shown too.

Watched one episode it was alright. One of those waiting till dp is home to watch it

I loved the final episode - really watchable and moving. I mainly kept watching it for the panfilo/neifile relationship. I found it quite touching how they had their marriage based on friendship and respect despite not both being heterosexual.

I binged it. Not sure if I liked it or not to be honest! It was completely different to anything I've seen on TV for a long while. It was dark and funny. The characters were brilliant. It reminded me in parts of slapstick. There were so many tropes/Easter eggs in it I couldn't keep up! The script and actors were great. It left me in nerved (in a good way), bit like Baby Reindeer did (in a bad way).

This is a bit of a spoiler but I was very concerned about all those steps down to the kitchen. Who builds a house like to the that!

I'm on episode 4. I bypassed it a few times thinking it looked a bit silly, but then gave it a go. I'm enjoying it.

PeriIsKickingMyButt · 05/08/2024 06:37

I got bored during the first episode. It seemed like a failed comedy.

TemuSpecialBuy · 05/08/2024 06:45

I loved the bizarre unravelling!
but there was something off centre that stopped it being successful. One of my main gripes was the accents - it was INCREDIBLY jarring.

Derry girl and the tall willowy one Licisca
were greattt. Most of the cast were i thought

GreenPoppy · 05/08/2024 07:04

I don't mind the accents. I mean, the whole thing is a bit of a mish-mash so it just goes with the overall feel. The modern music, accents, dark but also silly. It does have a bit of an am-dram feeling sometimes with the over-acting and shrieking.

Still enjoying it though.
