Does anyone else have a problem with ITV X? You get 40 mins into a programme and it's just glitches. Laptop: can;t even get online.
Is it a me problem, or are they just trying to push you to premium by being rubbish?

It's horrific we download from it sometimes but actually watching is a nightmare. Also we have Stv player which is just as bad.

Anonym00se · 17/07/2024 19:57

And when it freezes five minutes from the end, your only option is to put it back on again from the beginning, and you can’t fast forward 😡 So you’re forced to mute it and leave it running for nearly an hour to watch the last couple of minutes. It always happens to me!

franke · 17/07/2024 20:01

Yes, I watch it through apple tv. It's a nightmare

thenightsky · 17/07/2024 20:01

Yep, nightmare. My5 is getting just as bad too. 40 mins in approx and black screen and whirly thing.

purpleme12 · 17/07/2024 20:11

No I don't have problems
Sometimes when you press play it has whirly circle going round and round but we worked out that if press pause when that happens it does actually make the programme play, weirdly.
Once we'd worked that out we were fine

CrushingOnRubies · 17/07/2024 20:12

I know everyone moans about the bbc. But I have to say that iplayer is the best of the on demand services. No ads, very little buffering if any. And Easy to navigate

OldTinHat · 17/07/2024 20:32

Never had a problem with ITV X. I can cast from my phone or stream on a TV. CH4 however...😡

IwantToRetire · 17/07/2024 21:03

Suspect it will have far more to do with anyone's internet connection and download speed.

And of course whichever techie wizard them employed to set up their streaming service.

duc748 · 17/07/2024 23:03

I'm the reverse of most people. I've never had a prob with ITVX (although I don't use it that much, but I have a bit more just lately), and the i-player I find very slow, and prone to 'jumping out' altogether.

We have Virginmedia cable internet, never any trouble with itvx, BBC iPlayer, more4. If it's glitching, freezing, etc, it's your internet connection or your wi-fi.

Quite possibly, but we have the best possible where we live!

And despite living in central London, we can't get Virgin!
It drives me nuts

Yes it's awful for me too. Definitely not my WiFi as other streaming services work fine.

828Pax · 22/07/2024 20:43

I've given up using it, it is the worst app!!

CuriousGeorge80 · 22/07/2024 20:45

OMG yes - ITVX is absolute garbage. Started watching something yesterday and after getting the black screen once I’d sat through three rounds of the first set of ads I gave up. It’s awful. Don’t have any issues with any other service so I don’t think it’s as simple as saying it’s your internet connection.

Newdoggo · 22/07/2024 20:46

It is shit, I always check if the programme is on STV player instead as it's a little better

GenerousGardener · 22/07/2024 20:46

We are with Virgin. The internet very very rarely goes down. ITVX is crap! We’ve given up watching it. Never a problem with any other tv app.

IwantToRetire · 23/07/2024 00:16

It is also possible that ITVX have not invested enough in that hardware their end.

So in my first comment when I said "And of course whichever techie wizard them employed to set up their streaming service."

I must have deleted (or never typed!) that part.

If people with different internet providers all find ITVX slow it does sort of suggest they haven't got enough hardware and / or the software programming just isn't good enough. Or their techies are incompetent.

But seems really strange that a company at that level would have researched and got powerful enough servers to cope with demand.

From ITVX web site it says:

  1. Check your internet speed. You’ll need an internet connection of at least 1Mbps to watch without buffering.
  2. Try a different browser.

Must admit I haven't watched ITVX recently because the ad breaks are so looooooooooooooooong I avoid it. But dont remember problems.

I am with Virgin Media and do pay for a faster speed than the slowest, but as always with these companies I have been with them for so long they make me pay more than a new customer would for that speed.

So much for rewarding loyalty.
