Celebrity Come Dine with Me
Channel 4
Like a slither of smoked salmon tucked under a dull salad leaf, this tasty morsel has until now been hidden in the daytime schedules, but appreciated by a growing number of viewers. In each programme four amateur cooks (you can't call them chefs) take turns to host a dinner party, which their guests rate out of ten. The top scorer wins cash to donate to a charity, but that's almost incidental. The real meat of the show isn't the food, but the participants. Think Wife Swap rather than MasterChef - sometimes they nod off, flirt inappropriately and even throw up, but they nearly always bitch about each other. Even better is Dave Lamb's sarcastic commentary - one remark from him could make spinach wilt. This primetime series starts with a celebrity edition featuring former It Girl Tamara Beckwith, singer/songwriter Lynsey de Paul, musician MC Harvey and tenor Jonathan Ansell.
