Rambling Bread thread. Was it ever funny?

Every now and then I catch an old episode of Bread. I remember it being huge at the time but I don’t find it funny. What was it? A bitter sweet comedy? A social satire? The “new” Joey just seems depressed. Jonathon Morris’s pacing is superb. I don’t know why he didn’t stay in classical theatre rather than go into panto and TV quiz games.

Anyone else watched it recently?

Nope but it was in the same vein as the endless Dad's Army, Last of the Summer Wine and Allo, Allo. All awful, not funny and a reflection on 3 or 4 channels. Thank God for streaming.

Dad’s Army wasn’t as maudlin as Bread, though. Was it trying to be “arty” with Joey?
