Any documentaries you recommend?

Off on holiday soon and pondering what to download on my iPad for the flights. Are there any documentaries you recommend? Preferably short ones rather than series - something like 24 Hours in Police Custody but any genre really.

I've got Netflix, Disney+, Prime and Now TV to choose from plus the usual terrestrial channels.

Thanks!

Channel 4 has got a couple of really good true crime documentary series just now.
Would recommend “Imposter. The man who came back from the dead” - About USA fugitive found in Scotland. Fascinating and quite bizarre.
Also just watched “The Fall - Skydive Murder Plot”. Really well done too.

ScribblingPixie · 13/06/2024 20:02

There are some great ones on the iPlayer In The Archive section.

Sunshineandrainbow · 13/06/2024 20:04

Have you watched forensics on bbc2?

Catching a killer on channel 4

shellyleppard · 13/06/2024 20:06

Music wise.. watched some really good ones about a-ha and pet shop boys

sentfromiphoen · 13/06/2024 20:10

The new TikTok cult one on Netflix is good; 3 episodes

Namechangedforspooky · 13/06/2024 20:11

Agree with American nightmare, especially the 3rd one

Also the Gabby Petito one on ITV if you like true crime

Namechangedforspooky · 13/06/2024 20:12

And also any of the When missing turns to murder series on Netflix

Shiveringinthecountry · 13/06/2024 21:01

Storyville (BBC iPlayer) has a lot of great documentaries.

Surgery School (three episodes, Prime) is great.

To Catch a Copper (Channel 4)

Gypsy Billionaire (Prime)

My Octopus Teacher (Netflix) - amazing!

Spellbound (Apple) - £1.99 to rent but worth it - fantastic

Somebody Feed Phil (Netflix - if you like food things it's great)

Wild Tales from the Village (if you can find it - was on BBC - try YouTube)

Shiveringinthecountry · 13/06/2024 21:09

Oops...

Murder at the Cottage (Now) - fascinating!

24 Hours in A&E - I love this but it's not for everyone :)

The Boy Who Lived Before (YouTube) - I love this too

Ghosts on the London Underground (YouTube) - and I love this too!

Unlocked on Netflix is excellent.
Documentary inside a US prison where they experiment with giving inmates more freedom.....very interesting and some unusual characters and stories

Yes there's nothing sordid on screen, more the personal stories of people who got outed by the data hack.

I watched Lover, Stalker, Killer on Netflix today too, that's another interesting one.

Defiantlynot41 · 13/06/2024 22:59

Mr Bates vs the Post Office if you haven't seen it. The BBC podcast is more detailed and totally gripping www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/series/m000jf7j?partner=uk.co.bbc&origin=share-mobile

waltzingparrot · 13/06/2024 23:28

Spycraft and Zion, both Netflix

IdisagreeMrHochhauser · 14/06/2024 02:17

I watched the Jlloyd Samuel documentary on Netflix this evening. It's only an hour. It was apparently on ITV a couple of years ago but is new to Netflix.
