I remember enjoying but not always understanding series 1 and have only just noticed series 2 is now being shown.

I was going to put a link throught to series 1 but see I am the main contributor. Blush

Although some other contributors thought the series as good as Giri/Haji.

Series 1 seems to still be available https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p0d8nzg8/tokyo-vice-series-1-1-the-test

BBC One - Tokyo Vice, Series 2

An American journalist in Japan is drawn into the dangerous world of the yakuza.

I really enjoyed series 1 although it was more violent than I usually watch.
11 mins into s2 and I've decided I need to go and rewatch s1 coz I can't remember who's who!
I'll be back on this thread in about a week

I think I will follow you in doing this. Was going to start on Series 2 over the weekend, but have little or no memory of the characters.

And yes, should probably have put that in my OP, there is some quite extremem violence which was upsetting, but was usually between men fighting (the plot is about gangs), rather than male violence against women.

Started watching this tonight, so glad it's back on

I finished at the weekend and it was fantastic absolutely gutted it won't be back for a third season

I enjoyed both series. But I think they did right to end it after series 2. Series 1 ended so abruptly. This felt like the second half and really rounded the story up. I can't see how it would develop from here. It would just be endless reiterations of yakuza violence, police and journalist investigations with a few random bent coppers/journos in the mix.

Have only just finished series 2 as I wanted to re-watch series 1 to remind myself of characters plot etc.. But struggled with it, until I watched Shogun (??!!) and then I got going.

Was really glad they started series 2 right after the end of series 1, and only moved the time forward in episode 2 or 3.

Unlike everyong else as far as I can judge from comments I thought series 1 was much better. I think series 2 was more formulaic and probably suffered from fan response to characters.

There wasn't the balance created by using Jake to go out and talk to every day people, and the inner workings of the Yakuza, as series 1 did.

And although not guessing exactly the end it was signaled by about half way through.

I thought they had set up it by the end of series 2 for a third, but see up thread a PP has said not series 3.

Really liked both the wife and mistress of Tozawa!

But still disturbed by the whole nightclub hostess set up.

And will never forgive Jake for letting down his sister. Angry

And not even a scene to show him phoning.

I have just gone through both series back to back. I enjoyed it and am sad there won't be more, but also not sure where it could go. I would love to find out what Samantha did next, though. I know it's based on a true story but I feel like Jake would not have come out so unscathed physically from the extent to which he bothered Tozawa. But then again, the murder of a foreign civilian attracts a lot more attention I guess.

Agree - the way he became part of the crime seemed unrealistic.

Apparently the tv series isn't that close to the actual book Jake wrote https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jake_Adelstein

Thought it was really good. Rewatched season one so only finished season 2 this week. Gutted there isn’t going to be a season 3.
