This is adorable! I love the two of them as individuals but seeing them in a show together is heart warming. They just seem to fill each others cups so much and so genuinely.

I wonder how Rob and Rylan came across each/found each other to become such good friends?

It is not as if they meet in the same social circles ?

Strictly circles maybe?

covetingthepreciousthings · 13/05/2024 21:36

Just watched the first episode, what a lovely show. Wasn't what I was expecting but really enjoyed it, seemed really heartfelt and like they genuinely care about each other in a close friendship type way.

minou123 · 13/05/2024 21:41

I really enjoyed this show.

Admittedly I've binged watched all 3 but I wont spoil it.

I love the friendship between Rylan and Rob..
But in particular, I enjoyed learning more about the "Grand Tour"
I knew wealthy men would do a grand tour in the 18th/19th century, but it's been interesting learning about what exactly they got up to

bizzey · 13/05/2024 21:45

Love learning about the history...
Who knew there was a " bridge of titties " in Venice !

bizzey · 13/05/2024 21:45

Well I didn't !
Before anyone says it is a famous bridge !

bizzey · 13/05/2024 21:46

Off to goggle the bridge of titties !

Strictly circles maybe?

There was an article in one of the papers. They only met when the programme was proposed and they hit it off straight away. They are definitely just friends but they really bonded.

I loved it too. (Only seen the Venice one so far).

Bovrilla · 13/05/2024 22:06

Love them both. Really genuine guys, both intelligent and fun.

It's a lovely programme.

Rob was on Strictly a couple of years before Rylan took over It Takes Two and his pro partner left the show so while they might have met through mutuals it's not surprising that they didn't.

I was a bit Hmm when he went all "who me? Dance!?" when he did actually finish 5th on Strictly - more through hard work and charm than natural dance aptitude I suspect though.

I would have thought its obvious that they both work in the entertainment industry, at all the same dos and parties, know the same people. Telly and radio people.

@bizzey There is an interview on line where they discuss this - they were put together for this show

Clark and Rinder were not close friends when the BBC approached them about making a show together. They were, as Rinder puts it, “industry mates”. During filming, “Rob went from being a mate to being a friend,” Clark says. Now? “If it weren’t for the fact that I couldn’t think of anything worse than me and Rob reproducing, I would marry him. And if we don’t get a Bafta nomination, I’m going to claim homophobia.”

I generally can't stand either of them and find them really annoying but saw a bit of this show and thought they were quite watchable together actually. It was weird. I suppose that's what they call chemistry in tv land.

IndependentUndefeated · 14/05/2024 00:42

Glad to have seen this thread and have just watched it. Really interesting and heart warming to see their friendship. But after the photos of the BAFTAs I think Rob may have got all the feels for Rylan, he comes across as very vulnerable.

the80sweregreat · 14/05/2024 08:13

I loved Robert Rinder doing his show and bellowing at people and making the really bad ones squirm , so I was surprised at how humble and introverted he came across here.
Both of them seem genuine though and I've always liked Rylan

Floralnomad · 14/05/2024 17:40

I really like both of them but I didn’t really enjoy this , a bit more history and culture and a little less self improvement would have suited me .

JoJothegerbil · 14/05/2024 17:51

I loved this. I'm going to watch at tv pace as DH won't forgive me if I binge it all.

Ds2 is charity ambassador for a VERY special farm on the Isle of Sheppey.
The farm is run by two Dad's who were on DIY SOS a few years ago.
Rob Rinder is involved in the farm too. Ds hasnt met him yet.
Its a lovely farm. I've dosed myself up with antihistamines and visited. Here...

Watched the first episode tonight and wasn't expecting the frequent sexual innuendo from Rylan! Although he is funny. Rob seems to be very reserved in typical upper class English fashion. However, I think the very overt gay focus is a bit OTT, like the blind dates Rylan set up.

I would say Rylan seems to have recovered from his divorce better than Rob has, who seems quite emotional and raw about it still. Perhaps Rob's happened more recently?

Also, what was that part Rylan was talking about when he was saying he was Ross at home? Is Rylan not his real name then?

I used to be friends with Rob, many years ago. Totally nuts in the best possible way.

He wasn’t from a posh background although he obviously speaks well. Went to a well to do state school. His mum has done well for herself. He was always into debating and wanted to be a barrister.

Rob's nowhere near as posh as he appears, he's from a single mum working class background, same as Rylan.

Rob's divorce was a long time before Rylan's - 2018, I think.

Rylan is a made-up name, his real name's Ross.

Meredusoleil · 16/05/2024 22:11

Rob definitely seems to be well educated. He knows about Art and Music for a start. When he conducted that orchestra in Vivaldi's Four Seasons I was like 😯

I honestly thought this was a result of a private (or even boarding) school education!

Ross is his real name that he still goes by with friends and family. Rylan is a character that's his public facade and protects him from criticism.

Ah - just me then - I thought it was tacky. ........ ducks below parapet .......

GloriousintheArctic · 16/05/2024 22:28

I really liked this programme, I like both Rylan and Rob and thought they worked really well together. But it does look like Rob has an unreciprocated crush. I saw them together promoting the show and it looked the same way in the interview.

I was surprised how quiet and introverted Rob seemed to be, I would have thought this was within his comfort zone.

It was interesting that Rylan chose not to wear drag, just the wig and makeup. I'm not mad on drag but it was useful in the context of the programme - masks, hiding behind an image.

Rylan is very likeable and I agree he is underestimated, he's very smart.

Haven't watched this, but think I will now based on this thread! Just wanted to say Rob Rinder's novel was very enjoyable, nice read.
