Has anyone watched this? It's a cross between Life on Mars and Austin Powers. Terrible in a way but bloody hilarious.

I love it!
I know people will say it's terrible, but it actually made me laugh and he is brilliant in it.
He is like a cross between Nessa , David Brent and Gene Hunt
Mind you, being older I got all the jokes
Ds2 ( 26) was puzzled 🤔 😂

Dontjudgeme101 · 20/04/2024 13:21

I love it. I can relate to some of the things as at school in 70s/80s.

HelloDenise · 25/04/2024 23:13

I watched them all now. Could do with another series.

I binged all of these. I thought it was quite funny, taking the mick out of being PC without being offensive, the guy is trying to live in the 21st century when he still thinks Another Brick in the Wall is at No 1. It's funny too with his mate who is the kind of bridge between then and now and gets exasperated with him.

He's on a lot of shows just now and I read he is being lined up for Strictly.

Premise good
Script lacking

the80sweregreat · 29/04/2024 17:56

I liked the main actor as he managed to make a ridiculous script and person quite believable
A bit like Linda ( Kathy Burke ) in 'gimme gimme gimme '
I also like Sian Gibson in anything ( also good in ' the power of Parker ' last year )

the80sweregreat · 29/04/2024 18:00

I did laugh at his friend singing' blankety blank ' and the snooker tv themes with the ashes Really bonkers , but funny.

I'm often accused of not having a sense of humour, but I just find random things funny, like this. I saw Vic Reeves Big Night Out for the first time. I never watched it the first time round, I was in primary school. The Man With The Stick On Holiday was so funny. Rolling around laughing watching Bob Mortimer nailing bacon to a wall was also stupidly funny.

the80sweregreat · 29/04/2024 18:25

I used to like Vic and Bob on ' shooting stars'
That was funny.
Anyone under 40 probably won't get many of the jokes in Mammouth !
I liked the opening credits too ( from episode two) , very retro

I loved it - though I did go to school in the 70s/80s - all girls school with a female pe teacher whose main sport was gt and a fag after a round of golf - not sure how she every got to teach pe!!

I really like it and really fancy Mike Bubbins (if that's his name). I think it's the 'tache and old-fashioned masculinity of the character😬. I also feel the same about Ron Swanson.

RoofyRoofstar · 30/04/2024 20:48

Just watched Mammoth, it was brilliant! They really brought in the 70’s and the way it was then and the current day. So funny. Mike Bubbins is hilarious and Sian Gibson is great. Hope there’s another series!**

BillieTheFish · 02/05/2024 13:17

All those women who swiped right on Mammoth and had a rude awakening in the Indian restaurant. I watched the first episode again and where he is miming shagging when he is filling the car up at the petrol station, that woman's face.

Lauren86 · 02/05/2024 15:55

I thought it was painful. The problem is that the main character isn't actually a character at all. It's just the actor being himself which makes it loathsome. (yes he dresses like that in real life, it's his actual Ford Capri and apparently his house is decorated in 70's style). If it was a character, I might find it funny (in the way that Alan Partridge is a character who is nothng like the creator Steve Coogan). The show is basically a Mike Bubbins wet dream. Also, I looked up Billy Jean King (who seems to be a running joke) and she wasn't outed as lesbian until 1981 so there's no way he would have known. Poorly written and researched.

the80sweregreat · 02/05/2024 16:30

Maybe Mammoth looked up Billie Jean king on the internet at his school ..😂
I didn't realize the actor actually lives Iike that though ! How bizarre. It Must be a pain sourcing parts for the Capri.

The 70s were ok, but the 80s were better 😉

My ex went on and on about Mike Bubbins and used to play a podcast he does in the car ALL THE TIME! it's not even as though he's acting because the way he was on the podcast is exactly how he is in Mammoth. I just think it's really creepy.

the80sweregreat · 02/05/2024 17:23

I admit I've never heard of this Mike Bubbins before now !!
I thought it was more like an Alan Partridge character, I didn't know he actually lives like this. 😂
Strictly would suit him , all those rhinestones and fake tan and glitter balls. He could ham it up with ' staying alive '

HelloDenise · 03/05/2024 08:43

I thought Mike Bubbins was a joke name. I saw him on Sunday Brunch the other week, never heard of him before that.

I found it all really funny. @Lauren86 I looked him up on Instagram and I don't think he's playing himself exactly. He's more toned down than Mammoth is and he's dyed his hair and moustache for the show. I'm hoping he's not a sexist dinosaur in real life, he looks happily married so one would think not!

There is a funny episode of the Parenting Hell podcast from 2023 featuring Mike Bubbins, I've followed him on insta since then.
