Anyone watched this? It’s about a single mother with an abusive partner she walks out on after he punches a hole in the wall of their home, and useless bipolar mother (played by Andie McDowell and the single mum is her real life daughter Margaret Qualley). It’s excellent though grim in places.

Yes it's very good but it was released is 2021, there have been other threads about it.

Sorry I posted. Will have a search.

I really enjoyed it, although it grated on me a bit what a perfect mother she was; despite all the pressures she was under she didn’t snap once.

Yes this was amazing. So clever how it shows that he reels her back in. Even as a viewer you start to think maybe he isn’t so bad. It was very sad

There were some times I wanted to shake her though. And yes the actor who plays her ex was amazing.

Someone on another thread said they thought the good guy who she became friends with was the worst guy in it. The character not the actor.

I think he was there to show that coercion can sometimes be very subtle.

KimberleyClark · 10/04/2024 14:25

Thinking about it, it did sometimes feel that Nate (the “good guy”) was taking advantage of her vulnerability, but then again Alex did rather give the impression she fancied him.

I've only just watched this too OP. was shocked when I realised the husband is the teen boy from jurassic world.

That aside I thought she was a brilliant actress, far better than the over acting from Andi Mcdowell but she annoyed me by ruining four weddings so I have a grudge.

So many moments when I felt she ruined it for herself over and over but reminded myself she's meant to be 25 so fair enough. Beautifully shot and scripted.

LunaNorth · 10/04/2024 14:34

I wasn’t surprised that she was Andi McDowell’s real-life daughter.

I watched it back in 2021. I thought it dealt with coercion really well. But I agree with PP that the main character was too 'perfect' of a mother which was really unrealistic.

The main actor being Andie MacDowell's daughter slightly ruined it for me. I can't stand nepo-babies anyway, and I found it quite paradoxical that the lead role in a show about struggle, isolation, battling against the odds would be played by one. Paradoxical but unsurprisingly, sadly.

I loved it but never knew that!
