I’m recovering from a stressful time and would like to watch a tv show that’s absorbing so no temptation to reach for phone etc. I like crime drama (Shetland, broadchurch, line of duty) etc and have like foreign shows (loved The Killing, The Bridge, Trapped, Vanished by the Lake etc). I like the subtitles as they mean I have to pay attention! Does anyone have any good recommendations that fit the bill? Scrolling is not really getting me far. TIA :)

Catch Me a Killer on Alibi - dramatisation of a South African criminal profiler.

Professor T on ITV app - just released the third series. Quite quirky characters.

Law and Order Special Victims Unit, I'm addicted to it!

Kayemm · 30/03/2024 18:54

It's fabulous, it's seven seasons and has a PROPER ending.

Elenasdream · 30/03/2024 18:55

Slow Horses, best thing I’ve seen in years.

imnotsickbutimnotwell · 30/03/2024 19:07

Slow Horses on Apple TV….Gary Oldman is fabulous in it.

I enjoyed Foyles War on Acorn TV

bookbook · 30/03/2024 19:09

Loved Foyles War
Unforgotten ( cold case stuff) was great up to the last series

fridaynight1 · 30/03/2024 19:19

I’m guessing you’ve watched Happy Valley.
Last Tango in Halifax isn’t quite as hard hitting but written by the same person. It’s packed full of drama.

Ridley? Adrian Dunbar from Line of Duty stars in it.
Unforgotten
The Bay
Annika
Payback

Elenasdream · 30/03/2024 19:25

Yes have watched Happy Valley and loved it. Also Inspector Montelbano in my guilty pleasure. Haven’t seen some of the others though so thank you :) adding them to my watch list

Have you seen The Unforgotten? I have loved all of the programmes that you have listed so we obviously have similar taste.. try The Unforgotten if you haven't seen it, you won't regret it! My favourite series ever!

ManchesterBeatrice · 30/03/2024 19:30

Enjoying Kin, bbc iPlayer, but you have to stick with it.

Elenasdream · 30/03/2024 19:32

@RipePeach aw yes thanks have seen them all and loved them, even post Nicola Walker. Sometimes I wish I hadn’t seen some of my favourites so I could have the pleasure of watching them all over again (without knowing the ending!)

Slow horses.
It's just fabulous

nabanna · 30/03/2024 19:49

The Killing US version available o Channel 4/All4. I was a big fan of the Danish original, but really enjoying this. On series 3 now and that is very dark much darker than I remember the original ever being.

bookbook · 30/03/2024 19:51

Have you seen The Young Montalbano , if you loved the original

Newname2308 · 30/03/2024 19:59

Netflix have a Harlan Coben section - they can be pretty far fetched but they’re always thrillers with twists. There’s a French one and a Polish one as well as the English language ones.

Spiral 🇫🇷
Braquo 🇫🇷
Criminal: UK/France/Spain etc (Netflix)
Beck 🇸🇪
Wallander 🇸🇪 & 🇬🇧
Les Revenants 🇫🇷
