Is anyone watching this? I’m really enjoying it. Amanda Seyfried is fantastic and generally good acting.

I watched it on Disney last year. Ended up binge watching it all over Christmas. Enjoy!

ShalommJackie · 27/03/2024 23:30

It is good! I will say that Amanda Seyfried's accent and tone is bang on! She sounds exactly like Elizabeth Holmes!

CurlyWurly1991 · 28/03/2024 13:41

Watching it here too! On episode 5 already … can’t believe it’s based on a true story!!

AuntieJoyce · 28/03/2024 14:19

Once you’ve binged, the podcast is really good and follows on with what happened next. And next ….

tennissquare · 28/03/2024 14:33

It's very good, I watched it on Disney + in 2022.

Yes I am definitely listening to that next. I’ve already been looking up the various people involved irl and watching interviews of Elizabeth.

I've just finished this! Brilliant mini series, just jaw dropping really. What's the podcast? Would love to listen to that.

Netaporter · 29/03/2024 22:30

@CatherineCawoodsScarf i watched it in 2022 and loved it. if you liked this I recommend WeCrashed on Apple TV - story of WeWork and the equally batshit/delusional Adam Neuman. Also dopesick on Disney and painkillers starring Matthew Broderick.

HelloMist · 30/03/2024 01:14

Watching it and finding it gripping and cleverly done.

I was aware of the story, think I listened to the podcast but only the original few episodes I think. They covered the trial a couple of years after that, so I'll have to listen to that once I've finished the series.

@HairLikeAnEasterEgg the podcast is called The Dropout as well. 6 episodes in 2019 then more in 2021, it looks like.

It's unbelievable. How stupid were all these people?

I guess it's never as obvious when you're in the thick of it.

I haven't watched to the end yet. I'm wondering if she genuinely believed in her product until the end or at what point she began to be actively defrauding people.

DH and I discussed this a lot.
It seems like she just thought it would all come good. The engineers thought success was years away. Elizabeth didn't come across as having any concept of the time or money required and didn't seem to care that the unproven machines had gone live.

The podcast horrified me, the way everyone in Silicon Valley normalised "fake it until you make it" as excuse for what they all allowed to happen in their work & investment environment.

I didn't think I'd enjoy the series, having been riveted by the podcast: I was very wrong. The series is excellent, agreed.

Fernie6491 · 30/03/2024 14:14

I loved the podcast, it was fascinating stuff. How she ever thought she'd get away with it is mystifying 😄

mrswhiplington · 30/03/2024 15:37

I watched it all last week and loved it. She certainly is a strange one. I felt so sorry for Ian Gibbons, the chemist. Such a sad end. Can't believe how easily people are taken in and willing to hand over millions.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 30/03/2024 20:13

Watching at the moment - brilliant!

shoppingshamed · 30/03/2024 20:30

The TV series is very superficial, not surprising for something that went on for years and involved many many different parties

The book is also good and explains it in a lot more detail but I'd recommend the podcast first

Thank you. I tried an episode of the WeWork one and couldn’t get into it but I might give it another go after this.

I am watching and loving it. She is clearly neurodiverse. The arrogance though! Like many CEOs, I suppose.
One random question I'm curious about. Did AS always have an overbite, or is this something she had to perfect for the role?

No she positioned her face to replicate Elizabeth Holmes’ under bite which was part of the reason she received such rave reviews for the role.

Thank you!

MrsLargeEmbodied · 09/04/2024 05:55

Just saw a trailer last night on BBC and am now watching it.
enjoyed it so far

SleepQuest33 · 09/04/2024 06:23

I watched it on bbc i player and thought it was excellent.

wastnt aware of the detail and I’m truly shocked at how long she got away with those lies! In fact I would say she is responsible for Ian Gibbons (chemist) death.

glad she’s in prison but she is so manipulative that I bet she’ll use her story to make money when she comes out.

feel sorry for her husband who clearly fell under the spell. Two children left behind!!!
