Oh no, it’s one of those weird years when there are 2 major sporting tournaments over the summer - The Euros and The Olympics 😞

How tedious. One of the reasons I don’t watch linear TV. Streaming means I’m oblivious to sporting events.

I don’t like football but I do love the olympics. Particularly sports that we don’t see that often. Usually there will be someone from team GB who will shine bright and we’ve never heard of them before. It’s sad that within a week of the Olympic finishing, it’s back to football again. The UK has so much more to offer sports wise.

It’s the thought of two events so close together I’m not so keen on. Agree that the Olympics are more fun

Thank goodness for the TV upstairs where DH will retreat to, though knowing my luck it will be on when we are away in the caravan and there will be no escape from it in the evening. He also watches every cycling event all through the summer, there are a lot! I don't mind a bit of the Olympics like the running and swimming events but some of them are very boring, usually the ones DH watches like archery and stuff like that.

Though I suppose it's judgement on me as we have just come back from a week away and I did hog the TV every evening from 9 for CBB

Happens normally, only this time the Euros may have England, Scotland and Wales participating.

True, doesn’t make it any more bearable

It's amazing 🀩 Add in the snooker world championships next month and all the weekend Darts Euro tours, French Open and Wimbledon it's perfect. Much better to actually have something to watch. 🎯⚽️🎾🎱

Mumblechum0 · 23/03/2024 14:34

It’s easy to ignore. We’ve never watched any sport, ever, and survived.

GemmaC50 · 23/03/2024 16:28

Not really into football in general but will be watching England with my footy crazy fella.. No doubt ending in tears again! lol. I've no interest at all in the Olympics, who can take anything seriously when they have events such as BMX biking, break dancing and that sweep the floor thing!πŸ˜…..BUT....if they had events like ''The Gladiators" which I totally love. .I wouldn't miss a second! Especially if the participants were massive muscled huge gladiator type hunks wearing shiny lycra cozzies as they battle away! Now, that's real entertainment in my eyes! lol :) πŸ‘€πŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺ😜

Plenty of other channels.

Its not like the 30 years ago when most people had four to chose from!

Grrrpredictivetex · 23/03/2024 16:36

Perfect for me. Can't wait.

IPL cricket started yesterday , it’s the highlight of my viewing year and I’m thoroughly looking forward to the Diamond league athletics and the olympics .

Nobody likes sport in my house thank God.

Can’t see that it will make much difference to most people tbf - does anybody still sit in front of the TV to see what they’re showing that night?Grin

alphabettispagetti · 23/03/2024 17:17

We're all getting very excited in our house! Holiday purposefully booked so that we're away after the Olympics as we want to be able to make the most of the BBC red button and choose what sports to watch. And I wrote the dates of various Euros matches on the calendar a few weeks ago so that, when we make social plans, we at least know what we might be missing.
I was ill during the Beijing Olympics and they saved my sanity. Then DC2 was a newborn during London 2012 and, ever since then, I've loved watching it.
The football isn't my thing as much but DH and the DC will love it and there's an extent to which they learn from watching it and can incorporate some of what they see into their own game play. By putting it on the calendar, I won't make the mistake I made a few years ago of booking tickets for an expensive event at exactly the same time as kick off of one of the key matches. No one complained or said anything but we could have just as easily gone to the event the next day and enjoyed both.
