Guy Ritchie production

8 part series.

Anyone watching it? I'm just starting episode three.

It's a typical Guy production I feel.

I do like it and the actors.

Any good? Assuming it's London underworld like his other stuff?

Autumnleavesarebrown · 09/03/2024 11:08

Yes just on episode 3. It’s excellent so far. I love this kind of thing.

drolldoll · 09/03/2024 11:55

I've come to the conclusion that this might be the very long winded first draft of the film, minus some excellent editing and fine tuning.

I have seen it all and found it boring to be honest 3/10 compared with 10/10 for the film.

No one speaks with such big pauses or about such a load of old guff. And to assume an army officer will leave and never once refer to or see any of his former colleagues is completely implausible.

Bankholidayhelp · 09/03/2024 15:35

I liked it. The two leads - Eddie Horniman and Susy Glass - I loved. Freddie and Tammy were great. Tammy was obviously wasted being with Freddie! It's toned down Guy Ritchie. I just binged the last 4 episodes. It is awash with stereotypes/tropes- posh people, travellers, Liverpudlians, religion, Travellers, south American drug cartels, north American drugs barons, illegal boxing, illegal gambling. etc etc. it's worth a watch for Joely Richardson (clothes) and Vinny Jones (drolness and animal sanctuary) alone I think. Got some lovely cars (want them all) , houses, clothes. Suspension of belief is definitely required from the start. But it's not supposed to be a police procedural so that's okay. There maybe was some scope for involving his army mates, but that wouldn't have been much of a story I think.
Not seen the film

Just watched the first episode, loved it!

I loved the movie, could watch it over and over again.

2Rebecca · 09/03/2024 21:17

This is great, up to ep2. Love the male lead, the new earl or whatever and the female "antique dealer"

CeriB82 · 09/03/2024 21:17

Im on E3 and still unsure about o

WannabeCatLady · 09/03/2024 21:19

I liked it but the end episodes dragged out a bit.

thenightsky · 09/03/2024 23:03

We were planning to binge the whole lot tonight, but DH has done is normal falling asleep thing, so only seen 4 episodes. We LOVE it so far.

Didn't realise it was a film first though.

Twatneighbours · 10/03/2024 09:35

Love love love it , I always like Guy Ritchie stuff , the correct balance of violence , humour and human kindness.

MillicentMaybe · 10/03/2024 09:46

To my surprise, as I’m not a particular fan of Guy Ritchie, we gave this a go last night. I’ve seen and enjoyed the movie, so, two episodes in, we’ll be carrying on tonight. Just not too keen on Freddie’s antics, but it’s part of the story isn’t it? Some of it is hilariously funny, and mostly very well cast.

YireosDodeAver · 10/03/2024 09:49

I watched the first half of episode one yesterday and enjoyed it enough to stop watching and ask DH to watch it to catch up with me so we could watch the rest together. However he disliked it saying it was far too Guy Ritchie for his tastes and so I will be watching the rest solo. Seems fun to me.

llareggub · 10/03/2024 09:52

It was ridiculous, let’s be honest. But it had lots of handsome faces to look at so I binged it all. I wouldn’t put it up there with the greats. Great soundtrack.

Bankholidayhelp · 10/03/2024 09:57

Think I'm going to watch the film if I can find it somewhere.

I'm currently watching Death and Other Things on Disney largely because of Mandy Patinkin (who was completely unrecognisable) which is a sort of similar veined drama, but I'm finding that hard going!

Is the film not on Netflix anymore then, that's where we watched it, I loved the film and I'm not a Guy Ritchie fan, Hugh Grant was brilliant in it & I don't like him much either!

On episode 3 of the series so far and really enjoying it, but it's not as good as the film so far anyway.

jay55 · 10/03/2024 13:49

I'm really enjoying it.
It's so daft and over the top but the acting is great.

WhatsTheEffingPoint · 10/03/2024 14:17

Binged watched it all yesterday. I enjoyed it, like others say typical guy ritchie, enough violence, bad language and ridiculousness to be easy enough watching.

Mothership4two · 30/03/2024 22:12

I liked the first few episodes but less as it went on. The final episode where everything was tied up seemed a bit rushed. A lot of it was a bit daft.

NCForQuestions · 30/03/2024 22:22

@drolldoll there's a lot more one the way of implausible elements than just that though! 😂

Poor advisors tbh on several elements, but I'm enjoying it as long as you don't overthink any of the details and just accept a lot of the silliness (not the excellent comedic silliness, the implausible bits).

Axx · 30/03/2024 22:30

I found it really disappointing, I so wanted to like it. I thought Edward was really poorly cast and didn't find him remotely convincing in the lead. The script was painfully overwritten it was just too wordy in every single scene which got tiresome.

It was too slapstick too often (Jimmy) and laughable in a bad way. Vinnie jones was okay tbf.

The film is much better. 3/10 for me.

Eyesopenwideawake · 30/03/2024 22:32

Just finished it and loved it! Eddie is a shoo in to play George Michael one day.

namechangefail88 · 30/03/2024 22:35

The earlier episodes were best, it got dull quickly and for such a fit bloke there was literally nothing about the main character, such a dull guy lacking in chemistry with any of the other characters.

I thought it was lazy to give it the exact same title as the film too.

lto2019 · 31/03/2024 00:28

I didn't really rate it - the first episode was promising but the rest wasn't up to much. I thought the brother who didn't inherit was great but the others didn't have much to work with. I thought the script was from the bumper book of gangster cliches.

mum2jakie · 31/03/2024 10:45

Have seen four episodes so far, it's OK- something daft to watch together as a family.

Does anyone know where the Gentlemen film is showing currently? I'd be interested in seeing how it compares to this series.

YourFogLightsAreOnTheresNoFog · 31/03/2024 20:47

I've just watched the first episode and liked it. Theo James is gorgeous. I can't wait to see more of Vinnie Jones's character.
