I watched the first episode and wasn't that impressed. Maybe it gets better?

Netaporter · 06/03/2024 07:52

Going to watch this later - currently in the middle of a Love/hate marathon on itvx 😂

EachandEveryone · 07/03/2024 15:35

I’m watching and enjoying it. I think it’s supposed to be a comedy? I find it quite funny.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 07/03/2024 18:33

Things you do for king and country 😁

MrsLargeEmbodied · 07/03/2024 18:45

its light hearted, which is always good

Not as light hearted as I hoped, really.Too much sex for me! Will give one more episode a try.

westisbest1982 · 09/03/2024 19:04

It's OK so far (I've seen two episodes). The story isn't terribly engaging, but Nicholas Galitzine is beautiful, so that helps.

Maxiils · 10/03/2024 21:30

I watched it too - went to schedule the recording for next week but cant find it on sky mix.....was it just a taster ep ?

MrsLargeEmbodied · 11/03/2024 19:16

i am hoping it is on tomorrow.

Anyone still watching? I'm on episode 5 and quite enjoying it. Not binging it as such but watching an episode a day. The costumes and sets are beautiful, casting great too. I'm intrigued to see what comes of them all in the end. I understand it will be largely fiction but would love to know how closely it follows what is known of the time from texts.

johnworf · 15/03/2024 10:03

Watched all episodes and really enjoyed it. I'd say it's very loosely based on fact. There's an episode after the last one with Alexa Chung interviewing the writers, costume designers, Julianne Moore, the cast etc that's really good.

Netaporter · 15/03/2024 10:16

Not started it yet. Would you recommend? I’d highly rate Love/Hate on Itvx as being competitive addictive!

R00tat00tt00t · 15/03/2024 10:18

That sounds interesting @johnworf .
I love historical fiction/drama and don't mind the poetic licence unless it completely changes the facts. I'm always amazed at how fickle the rulers could be and how easily convinced/manipulated they could be, driven by lust and greed. So much filth and disease too. What a dangerous time to live.

Supersimkin2 · 15/03/2024 10:19

It’s startlingly historically accurate! I loved it, fun and educational and touching.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 15/03/2024 13:15

It is no longer on my sky mix so it was just a taster, disappointed

OP posts:
piscofrisco · 15/03/2024 13:40

I was really excited for this and I've found it a bit disappointing. It's pretty but not much substance I suppose-I wish they had had it be both. I think it's ok but not that gripping. I'll finish it I'm sure. I just wanted a good historical drama to get in to!

Lovewine1975 · 15/03/2024 15:45

I'm really enjoying it love all the politics and court intrigue, lucky if you kept your head back in those days!

PrincessCharlottesleftsleeve · 15/03/2024 15:58

I've watched a few episodes. It's not as compelling as I'd hoped. Except for Nicola Walker. I'm usually a bit ambivalent about her but she's superb in this, having the time of her life, and steals every scene.

CornedBeef451 · 16/03/2024 13:49

I got NowTv specifically to watch this as I have a new, weird obsession with Nicholas Galitzine. Plus I love Julianne Moore.

I did enjoy it but it didn't hold my attention all the way through.

I'd like to know more about it so tried to watch the Alexa Chung episode but unfortunately I find her unbearably posh.

vincettenoir · 16/03/2024 13:51

I've seen 2 eps and am enjoying it. Nicola Walker was brilliant in the last episode.

westisbest1982 · 16/03/2024 17:32

I also love Nicola Walker in this and it’s nice to see her play someone very different to her usual characters. Still, the show doesn’t have that ‘I can’t wait to watch the next episode’ quality and I probably wouldn’t continue if it wasn’t for N.G.

fishonabicycle · 17/03/2024 21:00

Loved this. Very amusing and the scenes with Julianne Moore and Nicola walker were brilliant!

rookiemere · 22/03/2024 20:52

Just finished watching the series.

I couldn't get into it at all, I think it's because all the characters seemed pretty despicable and they didn't do a good job of making them seem empathetic.

IwantToRetire · 24/03/2024 20:04

I watched the whole series having found it by accident.

Honestly, its like something but together by 6th Form school boys who think explicit sex scenes is all very ground breaking.

And I know we cant really know how people behaved centuries ago, but thought all the modern values just didn't work.

But assuming even half of it is true, certainly not how I remember being taught about James I, who as one tv reviewer said would be at home in contemporary Brighton.

I would have prefered something a bit more realistic about the chasm between Court (or inner Royal circle?) life of anything goes and the Protestant ethic that was so strong at the time.

Me too. Laughed out loud at some parts. I really like Mary's second husband, especially his take on having to put the King and his followers up.
