I am try it to find the name of an old tv drama that I watched years ago with my mum, it sparked some really interesting conversations at the time and I think it might be a relevant source to use in a uni assignment I'm currently planning. If anyone could help I would be so grateful! Trigger warning here.... it might be needed for some people to know this is a drama about child abuse I am asking about! Please don't carry on reading if that would be in any way difficult for you!

The drama was about a man who was abusing his young daughter, the mum/wife found out and instead of leaving him put "boundaries" around the house, like he wasn't to bath the kids or put them to bed. As these rules got more lax he began the abuse again and the girl told her mum who then got the police involved and he was convicted/jailed. The drama followed him going through the justice system and taking part in some kind of rehabilitation program. I remember the ending was him being released back into his families loving arms with the end scene I believe showing him and his daughter (now an older teenager) looking at each other and smiling happily.
Thank you so much if anyone can help with a title.

Might be Something About Amelia? That rings a bell. Was an American TV drama with Ted Danson.

Thank you for replying. Definitely wasn't American. British actors and prison etc. It's so frustrating I can remember so much except the title.

Sounds shockingly naive and unrealistic whatever it was

Most definitely! I'm hoping to use it alongside some other sources to illustrate an arguably dangerous narrative around abuse in families and how a women is often pressured or encouraged to either stay with a perpetrator or allow contact for her children. I just need to find it 😩

I imagine that's the point.

When did you see it?

1990s or before?

AndiOliversGlasses · 05/03/2024 19:00

If you can remember or describe any of the actors we might be able to find it via IMDB

Iloveyoubut · 05/03/2024 19:34

im still looking! Yes, any actors or rough year or was on, asking around my mum’s friends in case they remember .

I remember it, I think. Did the dad’s job involve looking into images of child sex abuse? Lucy Cohu (sp?) played the mum, maybe?

EddieMunson · 05/03/2024 19:41

“Forgiven” is the one I’m thinking of. Derek Riddell played the dad

I remember this! I spent ages in my.second year of university trying to find it. Remember having a vivid conversation with my flatmate about having seen it and how shocking it was but we could never find it. If it helps narrow it down at all, that would have been in 2008 so had to predate then,
