If you have Amazon Prime this film is based in truth and taken from the book by Kate Moore. (The Radium Girls, The Dark Story of America's Shining Women)

It is both heartbreaking and heartening. It concerns the factory workers who were employed to paint the dials of clocks and watches, and who suffered radiation poisoning as a result. The company had known of the toxic effects of the radium. The physical effects on the girls were dreadful - and many died.

Their fight for justice changed history., but the cost to the women was appalling.

I watched Radium Girls last night and thought it was really weak compared to the book - which I loved. As they always do when they make something into a film or a TV series, they condense the stories, but I was disappointed. I thought the acting wasn't great and so much of the tension and just sheer awfulness of what happened was lost. I realise the reality was far more gruesome and perhaps they didn't want to show that, but the whole thing was just insipid IMO.
