It was an illuminating roundup of how the nation collectively lost its mind. Nick Ferrari wobbling his jowls over 'the nations's favourite grandfather,' how TM 'inspired the whole nation' (not me he didn't) and was a 'war hero', Jeremy Vine coming over all sorrowful over how we were let down, clips of the family being eviscerated on Piers Morgan's show and one nicely sardonic and cynical writer (Rebecca Reid) who I warmed to immediately because she was of the same mindset as me about the whole shebang.
It was nicely illustrative of the mawkish sentimentality and the building up of someone only to tear them down that some people in Britain seem to love. Watching this you realised just how mad the whole thing was - military salutes, Spitfire flypasts, and after his death people demanding a state funeral and a statue.
