Is anyone watching Expats on Prime? I’m really enjoying it, disappointed only episode 1 and 2 currently available, episode 3 next Friday. Annoyingly a couple of reviews contained spoilers for events only revealed in episode 2.

Loving it so far @Showmethebagels

My money is on Essie taking Gus. Your theories?

3peassuit · 28/01/2024 18:17

I don’t think Essie took Gus. She was a living in domestic helper of limited financial means so where could she hide him? They haven’t given us many clues yet, I’m hoping for a bit more in episode 3.

BobnLen · 28/01/2024 18:32

Yes, I enjoyed it, NK was in her usual role though, shame it's weekly, it's the sort of short series I could have polished off quite quickly.

mfbx5sf3 · 28/01/2024 18:35

@Netaporter that was my thought too! I’m assuming she’s just keeping him at some small apartment she previously lived at somewhere- as she was worried they would get rid of her and she wouldn’t get to be with him anymore.

LittleMonks11 · 28/01/2024 19:42

Watched episode 1 on Friday. It's very film noir. Very Nicole Kidman. Why does she always have such ghastly mother in laws.

No clue about her missing son at the moment. Presume the young woman abducted him for whatever reason.

She's sleeping with the best friend's awful husband. For some reason.

LegalAlienated · 28/01/2024 20:59

Made me realise I can’t stand Nicole Kidman and I see no chemistry between the parents.
I like the scenery though.

Netaporter · 28/01/2024 22:35

@LittleMonks11 i didn’t see that at all re the neighbours husband but he obviously said something very hurtful.

place your bets @3peassuit 😂

I thought the young woman was sleeping with him. Or maybe it was a lookalike expat.

LardoBurrows · 29/01/2024 17:32

I was hoping there was a thread. Enjoyed the first two episodes. Assumed at first that the little boy had died, but now looking like he disappeared although we won't know if his body was found until further episodes

I thought the same as @Netaporter that Essie might have taken the boy as she seemed to know that she might be on borrowed time. I decided that she followed them to the Night Market and grabbed him when she saw that the girl had let go of his hand and has him hidden somewhere and is feeding him chocolate for breakfast (this is likely complete bunkum). The young woman (can't recall her name) is definitely having an affair with the neighbour's alcoholic husband.

I'm frustrated at having to wait for the next episodes.

It was the friend’s husband, as I wound it back and paused it as Prime handily tells you the names of the characters and actors on screen when you hit pause. Only did this at the end of the episode as never made the connection in real-time!

Mercy is the Korean girl. She is sleeping with David (?), Hilary's husband.

Nicole Kidman is similar to how she was in so many other shows.

I found the setting very depressing. The people were so unlikeable.

Think that was one of the ones I read. It explained everything you found out in episode 2 which was annoying!

I stopped myself reading after she started in with the spoilers. She was right about Nicola Kidman though at the beginning of her piece. She just gravitates towards these victim roles now.

Crinkle77 · 29/01/2024 23:00

I'm not particularly enjoying this and not sure if I'll stick with it. The characters are unlikeable and the kids are brats. Although I did feel sorry for Mercy as she seems to be getting the blame but it's not her fault she was entrusted with a young child she barely knows, and who has a tendency to run off, in a very busy market. I think Essie is too obvious.

Wonderingaboutlifeandeverything · 29/01/2024 23:09

Just watched the two episodes, so do they only put out one episode each week?

Showmethebagels · 29/01/2024 23:47

Yes the first two episodes last Friday then a new one each Friday. It’s annoying…

I've only watch the first episode. Is Essie introduced in episode 2 as I can't think who that is?

I get so distracted by Nicole's lips....🫤

I get distracted by her thinness combined with muscliness

LittleMonks11 · 30/01/2024 15:06

Have watched episode 2. Much more characterisation of Mercy. She's currently the only likeable one. Gus is so annoying I really don't feel bad about him being gone! I don't think Essie has the gumption. My random theory is David's taxi driver! Why did they show photos of his kids and introduce that conversation. Or David himself cos he knows Hillary is back on the pill. And he's losing the plot.

FloraMaguire · 30/01/2024 15:08

I think the logistics of it being Essie are implausible. She lives with the family, on a tiny salary (assuming they pay the usual HK Domestic helper salaries of c.£500/month) and rents in HK are sky high even for a shared room, so I can’t see her affording another place to keep him. Plus who’d be looking after him if she’s not there?

Teddleshon · 30/01/2024 15:12

I find Nicole Kidman very peculiar, her delivery is odd and it’s almost like she’s AI.

EachandEveryone · 30/01/2024 20:57

I say it every time I watch Nicole Kidman I just can’t take my eyes off her lip and all the other work she’s had done. I just find it so distracting. She really only plays one part these days, doesn’t she?

Wonderingaboutlifeandeverything · 30/01/2024 21:18

Has Nicole Kidman always acted the same kinds of parts/in the same way
