We watched this three part series and it was unbelievable. Has anyone else seen it? I’d love to know the answers to a couple of questions that haven’t been answered. It’s well worth watching; we just binged it.

The one thing that I didn’t understand when Misty was investigating. She was trying to find out who the blonde hair on the goggles belonged to. Why couldn’t they just have ran the hair for DNA? Surely they would have had Denise’s on file given that she had tests run by the police?

Yes! I couldn't understand that either.

Whoopsadoodle · 25/01/2024 12:26

@Amdone123 i went down a rabbit hole after watching the documentary and wondering how that detective was still working. It sounds like the whole department is corrupt. The fact that he was creeping around the island homes and they caught him after setting up their own neighbourhood watch group and still did nothing is just unfathomable.

Family member is police here and just couldn’t understand how any of them kept their jobs and how poor their interviewing skills were and treatment of victims on camera.

SpttyMaldoon · 25/01/2024 15:47

@Terrribletwos , I didn’t understand that either.

also, when first interviewed , the boyfriend says they took his car and that he heard it being driven away, yet she was in the boot of the white mustang.

all very strange, because I actually believe them both.

lastly, there was certainly someone else involved, because she heard the car arrive at the cabin and heard them talking in the room next door, and Muller said on the email to the reporter that it was him with a couple of college friends.

I can only assume that the defense lawyers did actually check whether the FBI guy that knew the ex girlfriend, Andrea, had been to college with Muller.

I couldn't understand why when the kidnapped girl was released she was carrying so many bags? Seen on the video footage at her father's address.

I kept waiting for this to be explained as they showed that clip a few times… she was kidnapped in the middle of the night and bundled in the boot of a car, so I thought maybe she’d be in pyjamas and bare feet - but in the footage of her walking to her dad’s house after being released, she was fully dressed with sunglasses and what looks like a big hold-all and heavy rucksack crossed over her shoulders. The first time they showed it early on, it supported the “Gone Girl” angle that she’d just been hiding out somewhere. But later on I was thinking she’d maybe say he made her pack some clothes to look like she’d gone away and make her boyfriend’s story seem even more unbelievable, but it was never explained, unless I missed it?!

MermaidEyes · 25/01/2024 16:46

Yes I don't get why she had so much baggage with her either?

CinemaMinstrels · 25/01/2024 17:28

@Copen thank you.

@TinderTime Ah, I was going to ask about reenactments. Watched the second episode. Can I assume that was the worst of it, in terms of discussion?

TheFireflies · 25/01/2024 17:38

And as for what one of police said about child abuse, I can't even repeat it. Absolutely disgusting. I wonder if that police force has changed at all in the 10 years since the crime.

I was watching this in the next room to my husband, and at this point I gasped so loudly with shock that he came in to see if I was okay.

It was just horrific police behaviour through and through, except Misty. Thank god for her, but she must wonder how she puts up with the culture.

Wintom · 25/01/2024 18:21

Apparently, American police are allowed to lie to suspects to try and get them to confess. They can say their DNA was found on the victim, or in Aaron's case, you failed the lie detector test. Shocking!

Yes that was the worst of it.

Denise was taken away in Aaron's car then transferred into Mustang. Denise only heard the collaborators. I suspect they were faked by Muller (fake audio of car, voices?)
Muller told Denise he was the nice guy, others were bad guys. The other guys insisted he rape her. I call bullshit.

dapsnotplimsolls · 28/01/2024 20:34

I also wondered about the bag she was carrying when she returned.

The thing about the phone being on airplane mode was shocking.

I wondered if the car arriving at the cabin was just a food delivery or something and he pretended it was his 'associates'.

JMSA · 30/01/2024 17:53

I'm glad to see that someone had started a thread on it, as I finished it last night.
My word, it really was a case of truth proving stranger than fiction. I was convinced that Aaron was guilty Blush
I love at the end how he said that he wished his daughters would turn out like their mum. And she was nodding along and agreeing. Because he's absolutely right.
And what a nightmare for them both.

Slightly off topic, but was anyone else a bit Hmm by the woman who called the police, from her locked bathroom, while the attacker had her husband and daughter?! Confused

SunflowerSeeds123 · 30/01/2024 17:59

I thought Aaron was suspicious at first. Turns out I was wrong.

I didn't understand the luggage either, and who were these co-conspirators?

The blond hair: I'm (unreliably) informed that it's an advantage to have the hair root, though my knowledge of these things might be out of date.

GlamorousBadger · 01/02/2024 12:36

I came across an explanation on Denise’s insta re the luggage -

So he took her stuff to make it look like she might have left of her own choice.

GrimDamnFanjo · 01/02/2024 13:23

When Denise came back I was literally shouting at the screen that she'd be a walking dna petridish!
The police were appalling apart from Misti of course.

SpttyMaldoon · 01/02/2024 13:49

@GlamorousBadger , thanks for that.

I never doubter her but I like it when things are cleared up.

EasternStandard · 21/08/2024 23:23

Late to this thread but just watched this

Unbelievable

I cried at the end, Denise was so strong to get through it all
