Waterloo Road 2024 *Spoilers*

Couldn’t find a thread but if there is point me in the direction.

what does everyone think of this season? It all seems a bit far fetched even more so than usual. The Head Teacher is joining an academy trust as the school isn’t successful and at the end is going to become the CEO of the trust despite the school needing support previously. And some of the student storylines are so surface level these days - not like previously when an episode would focus upon an actual issue and it would have some moral dilemma or whatever just seems so forced.

I really miss the glory days of Waterloo Road. Still watchable but nothing like the early series! I miss the brilliant characters they used to have on the teaching staff - Steph Haydock, Grantley Budgen…

Scared2023 · 19/01/2024 19:33

Completely agree

Is anyone still watching ?

Scared2023 · 10/02/2024 20:29

Watched the whole season

I watched it but only out of a sense of loyalty or nostalgia. There was something a little off about it, definitely not like the old days.

I loved Grantley. His one liners were brilliant and they often come up on my Facebook memories to make me smile randomly.

Meredusoleil · 20/02/2024 21:23

Omg! That Libby is one serious piece of work. I can't believe she is already so manipulative at the age of 15. I mean wtaf? Please tell me that's not common behaviour amongst teenage girls 🙏

Faircastle · 10/09/2024 16:52

New series out today on iPlayer

Meredusoleil · 10/09/2024 21:25

Dean seems to have turned into a right psycho!

Nice new building.

Love Jason Manford as the new head. I think he's from around those parts too originally, so the accent fits.

Don't like the new Maths teacher. Where have I see that actress before?

Can't believe Libby would come back to that school. In fact, a lot of them should have probably left by now, but they are still only 6th formers 🤦‍♀️

Can't remember what subject that young guy teaches? And why did Linden leave?

Poor Joe. I thought he was going to have a panic attack in that lift 😳

Leeds2 · 11/09/2024 13:47

I wasn't convinced by Jason Manford. Early days I suppose. I assume he is going to have a thing with Nikki.

Bit strange that they are in the sixth form, but all seemingly studying the same subjects. I suppose it could be maths/English GCSE resits.

Corrie I think for the maths teacher

Have now watched all of the new episodes.

Very disappointed with how it ended. Seemed totally implausible and unrealistic, even by WR standards, to me. Was also irritated by Kim's return. I could understand Schuey choosing her as his person to phone, but not her being given seemingly free access to go into the school building and question people. I presume she will be going back as the new Head in the next series.

DIdn't really understand either why the pupils from the deaf school were introduced. For the first couple of episodes, they seemed to be integral to the storylines and developing their characters/relationships with other pupils, then just seemed to disappear into the ether as the death of Bos dominated.

Bit underwhelmed really.

I didn’t enjoy the series because i felt really sorry for billy the whole way through. His mum died, he got really badly bullied, he caused a death and his dad covered it up and expected him to somehow not crack. Also why did his dad chuck the body into the water? It would have looked more accidental if it looked like Bos fell off his bike wouldn’t it? I hope shuey leaves the series soon. Good actor but horrible character.

I felt very sorry for Billy too. And very far fetched, as you say, that dad threw the body in the river rather than leave it to look like an accident.

I also thought Schuey, and Bos, were horrible characters but thought they both showed their vulnerabilities at the end, and I actually felt sorry for them as they seemed to have been dealt a very rough deal in life.

I think another series has already been commissioned, but I think a lot of the characters need to leave as they are now looking way too old for Sixth Form (especially the boy who seemed to be forming a relationship with Libby). I assume this will happen, given there was a lot of university talk. Maybe they will all come back to school to have their certificates presented so that we can find out what they are all doing!

I think Noel was my favourite of the current students, and maybe Shola.

hoarahloux · 21/09/2024 19:14

Absolute garbage as usual, but as usual I had fun watching it.

I was disappointed that after humanising Schuey at the end of last series with his absolute terror of his dad, they made him a monster again right up until the last episode.

It became the point of Boz in the end but I hated that they introduced a character with no family, no friends, no one who loved or cared for him, not even a personality to be a follower of a bully and get unceremoniously killed off. I liked the memorial scenes.

Glad to see the back of Dean so early, although it could have been interesting to see him descend further into incel territory.

Thought Jason Manford was great. Who's next for the headship? Can't be Joe or Coral, and Kim won't be back. I'll admit to a soft spot for Kim and liked that the final episode was directed by Angela Griffin, but I'd prefer she kept to the occasional cameo.

Felt like this series could have used a few more episodes. Not too many more like the old show, but 10-12 maybe. The Deaf school kids hardly got a look in and only two got any lines anyway. I laughed when the maths teacher abandoned her class, the kids ran riot and it turned out that one of the support workers was there the whole time. "I'm not here for classroom management" indeed!

Cattyisbatty · 22/09/2024 09:53

Agree with the others, really shite but couldn’t stop watching.
Also felt sorry for Billy / but was ridiculous re Boz - they should’ve at least left him as there wouldn’t have been so much suspicion then. What did Billy put out to get on off his bike? I was half watching so didn’t clock that.
The maths teacher - what is she even doing? So unrealistic!

Yes I didn't quite see what kind of trap Billy set up that could result in Bos actually dying! I thought it looked like some rope to knock him off his bike, but hardly likely to cause a fatality like that 🙄

Also, have noticed more and more when these kind of incidents occur, the victim never makes a sound 🤔

hoarahloux · 22/09/2024 11:24

Billy strung a wire across the road, Boz hit it and came off his bike at speed.

A wire? OK. Still not enough to kill someone. Unless it was by decapitation 🤦‍♀️

Loooooo · 22/09/2024 14:07

I suppose he could have hit his head on a rock when he fell. Although there was no mention of blood found on the path so god knows

Cattyisbatty · 22/09/2024 17:35

Ahh, thanks. Yes, they should’ve just removed the wire and run off if they wanted to get away with it, surely? I think he did hit his head.

Meredusoleil · 23/09/2024 21:51

Just watched the last episode tonight and was very upset for Billy. I also felt for Steve. I really liked Jason Manford as Head of the school.

Can't understand how Kim is going to return when she is about to have a baby 🤨

Also wish Portia would wear less makeup or at least, apply it better!

You'd think ol' Tonya would be going at Portia with a beauty blender! I've known adults who wear foundation like that so I suppose it could be a deliberate choice...

I was impressed by the acting of the kid playing Billy and surprised at the direction they took the character, when he first appeared I assumed they were doing the Heartstopper "golden retriever boy" thing. Shame he won't be back, I liked him.

When will these shows learn that no child is called Billy or Jimmy these days? Brian, for that matter. Unless the '70s child names are coming back around?

Meredusoleil · 24/09/2024 07:04

Also annoyed at Nicky dumping Donte like that. It was only thr other day she said he was the best thing that ever happened to her and asked him to marry her ffs! Make up your mind woman 🙄

I can see a Donte and Nisha relationship developing in the next series. They are already setting them up for it imho.

MrsPeterHarris · 30/10/2024 21:27

I've just finished watching it today & really enjoyed it! I did shed a tear over Billy - gutted what happened to him! I'm not a Jason M fan but thought he was great in this!

Annoyed with Nicky for finishing with Donte - why??

I do miss how they used to focus on one particular character per episode and delve into that particular social issue but generally loved it anyway!

Loved Kim & Trenneman coming back & the ex pupils also! They do need a fresh crop of kids now though & exploring more with the deaf kids would be good! Hope the series keep coming!

Meredusoleil · 30/10/2024 22:01

I saw online today that the actress that played Carol Jackson in Eastenders will be coming in as the new Head of Waterloo Road for the next series!
