Couldn’t see another thread for tonight’s special so I’ve created this one. Hoping it’s a good one!

Oh yes thank you!

It is 9 isn't it? I was convinced it was yesterday and was all set up to watch, but alas!!

Namechangeforthis88 · 02/01/2024 20:37

Thanks for reminding me!

CaveMum · 02/01/2024 21:39

I’ve had to pause the tv as DS woke up and is insisting I sit in the dark in his room till he’s asleep again, so I’m waaaay behind now!

Enjoyed that, really good atmosphere. They all seemed to be really enjoying themselves. Deborah was great

Finally finished, I really enjoyed that. The popping task was fun and I loved the final task.

I really enjoyed that!

Is Taskmaster worth watching? I haven't seen it and haven't seen any reviews.

CaveMum · 02/01/2024 23:18

@determinedtomakethiswork it is 100% worth watching! It’s been running since 2015, though it started life on Dave before Channel 4 acquired the rights. There have been 16 series, 4 New Year Specials plus 2 Champion of Champions, with a 3rd due to air in the next month or so, so there is plenty for you to get your teeth into!

Sample review for a previous series here: https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2020/oct/15/taskmaster-review-a-delightfully-daft-diversion-from-the-world

Taskmaster review – a delightfully daft diversion from the world

The joy of seeing apparently robust, intelligent people such as Katherine Parkinson and Mawaan Rizwan crumble hopelessly under pressure never lessens

I might be in the minority but I thought having a child participate was a mistake. Changed the atmosphere too much.

I've not seen tonight's episode that you're all talking about, but thought I'd mentioned that they're releasing children's version this year called Task Master Junior. I believe the children participating are aged 8-12. It's with different hosts though.

Totally agree. At first I thought he was a very young looking adult but then saw he was only 14. It was good but not as enjoyable as usual and did change the dynamic. It was like when one of your friends brings their young teenager to the group lunch.

Just watched on catch up. Really enjoyed. Lenny properly funny, as was Kojey. So enjoyable to see Deborah Meardon in a different context.

Disagree with comment about having a child changing atmosphere. The celeb new years special is always going to be a different beast to regular shows. These guys aren’t comedians, they’re doing one show instead of ten. it’s not going to have that touch of pathos we’re so used to.

I preferred it to last years Ny special. Everyone seemed to be having a lot of fun. I always feel that a Taskmaster series lives or dies on how much fun everyone has during the studio record. One thing that stood out to me is how much everyone has bought into TM nowadays. It’s just become huge and it felt like the celebrities were part of that fan base, which in turn made the whole thing quite wholesome.

Also, just how nice to Alex was Greg?? I wonder whether that was a deliberate production decision? Either way, it was very well done. A warmer take on a their usual dynamic that fitted the one off. They are just the greatest comedy pairing.

We loved it! Much better than previous NY versions. Deborah Meadon was so good - her competitive nature really came through. The toaster was a highlight.
