Do they do your hair and make up for you?

I really want to apply to go on some game shows, they look so much fun and I think I'd do quite well. But as stupid as it sounds, I'm really awful at doing my own hair and make up and I'm worried I will look stupid on TV.

Yes - they do :)

F1ymetothetoon · 02/01/2024 13:56

When I went on one they didn't touch my hair and just touched up the make up I'd already done myself. The make up ladies were lovely though!

HoHoHoliday · 03/01/2024 13:37

Ooh, one answer each way, yikes. Perhaps it depends what you go on then. I might need to invest in a hair and make up stylist if I get picked just in case!

What did you two go on?

We were in Ask the Family in 1979 with Robert Robinson. The just touched up my face to give it a bit more colour.

YoullCatchYourDeathInTheFog · 03/01/2024 13:49

Yes. They didn't "do" my hair, apart from giving it a brush, maybe because it was very short at the time, but they did do me a full face of natural-look makeup. With HD and 50 inch tellies as standard nowadays it would be a bit cruel not to.

LenaLamont · 03/01/2024 13:50

No

REP22 · 03/01/2024 13:53

I was on Mastermind and they did do my hair and make-up. Minimal, but they did - and the make-up lady was lovely.

Moier · 03/01/2024 13:53

I was once on a show called The Time and Place in 1987..a talk show that was on ITV every morning at 9am
Anna Soubery was my host.. usually was John Stapleton.
They paid my train fare and over night hotel with evening meal and breakfast. The talk was about endometriosis ( and l ran a support group). But never got my hair and make up done and l was one of the main speakers.
I was told certain colours l couldn't wear.
Things have changed now..
So I've no answer for you . Good luck.

Possible that they held off because you'd already done a decent job though.

I went in with a bare face and they were happy to give me the works (also I was the only female contestant, so they weren't busy).

"With HD and 50 inch tellies as standard nowadays it would be a bit cruel not to."

This is my fear! I actually don't wear make up except if I'm going out somewhere special and even then I don't do a very good job because I just don't know what to do with it.
And my hair, well most days it resembles Neil from the Young Ones. I fear ending up on TV and the general public laughing at me.

I've been on 6 TV shows and not once have they done mine... now feeling a bit left out Grin... it's not because I'm a stunner either - there just wasn't anyone doing it. It was more a reality show though not a game show ..

I was a guest on This Morning

Mylovelygreendress · 03/01/2024 17:53

I was a contestant on WWTBAM and a lovely girl did my hair and make up .
Shame that Chris Tarrant was such an arse ….

Fridayfederica · 03/01/2024 17:59

The lovey Pointless make up team do make up to your taste if you want it. You do your own hair although they will run straighteners over it if required!

iklboo · 03/01/2024 18:28

Pointless - yes and the crew were lovely and gave us the gossip 😄.

The Chase - no, I had to travel down with a full telly face of make up on. They just powdered down shine & added a bit more lipstick (but were still lovely)

Wow! Can I ask what your specialist subject was?

imnotwhoyouthinkiam · 03/01/2024 19:26

Oh how exciting did you meet Robson & Jerome and if so were they lovely?

I don't remember tbh. And if I did I didn't know who they were. Anyone we did speak to was lovely, but I didn't know who R&J were at the time Grin

I was more excited that we spent the day filming at the posh boys school down the road. The teachers were terrifying and called us all by our surnames, the food was incredible and we were allowed to wander in the woods when we weren't filming. ( we had woods at my school but they were out of bounds)

I seem to remember there being an army recruitment stand too.

And we got paid £20 iirc. That was a lot of money to me then.

henrysugar12 · 04/01/2024 10:00

I was on Kilroy. They didn't do hair and makeup and I was the "main" person.

Extra multiple times on Brookside and Hollyoaks but they don't do make up and hair for extras. Never expected it either.

Lavendersquare · 04/01/2024 10:39

I was a contestant on The Chase and they didn't do my hair or makeup. We had to arrive at the studio all ready for filming, all they did was powder us periodically so we didn't shine.
