Has anyone seen the new adaptation that was on yesterday?

I couldn't get on with it at all, felt it lacked warmth. I do absolutely love the 1970s one though, so that may have skewed my opinion.

I'm not being racist but George being mixed race with a black mum? That would have been quite rare in 1930's upper class families. Also it's more likely the father would be black as men travelled here for work while females stayed in their home countries. Also George was called Kirren, and George's mum was a biological Aunt of Julian and siblings so they should have been mixed race too!

Sorry it was George's father and Julian's father who were brothers.

I’ve watched about a third of this and don’t think I’ll bother with any more! DD only sat through about 10 minutes. I’ll go back to my DVDs of the 70s version.

We liked it! It was mental - especially the bad guy!

The music and the overacting reminded me of the crazier 70s/80s kids shows - which is a good thing.

Really couldn't care less how likely it is that a black woman would be part of the British middle classes in the 1930s.

Yes that literally sums up how I feel about it. I like a crazy kids show!

I don’t think I’ll bother, turned off Murder is Easy after 20 minutes as the lead didn’t know what to do with his face and it made me uncomfortable.

Haha yes we said the same! The same expression in every scene

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 05/01/2024 22:43

I thought the baddie was brilliant, you truly believed he had a screw lose 😂

BobnLen · 06/01/2024 16:48

Just got to the bit with the dead body, it was like they had found a dead cat or bird, not a person.

NotTerfNorCis · 06/01/2024 18:20

I’m ok with retconning British social history for the sake of redressing past injustice.

As someone who studies history and thinks it's important, I'm not OK with this at all. It's what totalitarian states do.

Wasn't George's surname Kirrin in the books? Why have they changed it to Barnard?

Yes and the cousins were Barnard
Then became Kirrin
And it was Aunt Fanny's island... but she and Quentin wouldn't be Kirrin anyway

Tilllly · 07/01/2024 22:01

Bloody awful

Plot
Body
Clothes
Dick. - I mean that's not Dick AT ALL

Just dreadful

Hiddendoor · 08/01/2024 17:06

I have to admit to good roar of laughter when the famous five all had a go at poking the body with a stick. Jolly good fun!

purpleme12 · 19/05/2024 11:27

Just watched the first film about The Curse of Kirrin Island with my child.
Yes maybe it's not like the books but I thought it was quite good (for a children's programme) and my child enjoyed it

LoreleiG · 19/05/2024 11:40

I quite enjoyed it but it was nothing like the books and bonkers, agree. What was the 70s version? I don’t remember that. Is it worth a watch? I also didn’t understand whether the clothes were supposed to be 1930s or modern!

It's definitely worth a watch, it's available on ITVX premium if you have it.
