I'm in the mood for watching a good period drama after seeing a clip of The Serpent Queen. I have Netflix, Prime and Disney+ but it's not on any of them!

Im looking for recommendations of something similar on any of those channels please 😊

I like period dramas but not serpents. What's this about?

Pippu · 26/11/2023 12:00

My all time favourite Poldark is on iPlayer.
The Guilded Age (I think it's Sky?). It's a US version of Downton.

Wanttobeok · 26/11/2023 12:08

The white queen and the white princess are fantastic. They're probably on somewhere.

Tv series of pride and prejudice, and the Kiera knightly one if all else fails its not too bad tbh.

North and South with Danielle Denby Ash.

It looks like The Serpent Queen is on Lionsgate on Prime and you get a free 7 day trial if you have used it already, if you can watch it in 7 days.

Wanttobeok · 26/11/2023 12:21

I forgot Sanditon, watched it recently and really enjoyed it.

Also, it's not a "good" period drama, it's quite shit actually but the costumes are gorgeous and it's entertaining...Reign. also on the lionsgate 7 day free subscription

AnnoyingPopUp · 26/11/2023 12:23

The Great (on Prime) is really good. Also Outlander on Prime/Lionsgate.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 26/11/2023 12:25

I'm currently watching Roots, the original 70s series. Then I'm going to watch the recent remake. I think there's also a series that covers the period after the abolotion of slavery but I haven't found it yet.

Persuasion on Britbox is good. Just watching Sense and Sensibility on there also (the one with Dominic cooper)

Alwaystheplusone · 26/11/2023 12:31

Sanditon on ITVX

The English game on netflix

Blipeuy · 26/11/2023 13:43

The Alienist (Netflix)
The English Game (Netflix)
Ripper Street (Prime)
Sharpe (ITVX)
Catherine Cookson (ITVX)
Outlander (Lionsgate via Prime)
The Tudors (BBC)
Wolf Hall (BBC)
Pride and Prejudice (both versions are on Netflix)
Peaky Blinders (BBC but think it's on Netflix)
Frankenstein (Sean bean version on Netflix)
1917 (Disney+)
Hacksaw Ridge (Prime)
Hornblower can usually be found if you've got Virgin and use the search function

Blipeuy · 26/11/2023 13:45

Medici (Netflix)
The Last Kingdom (Netflix, I'm jealous of anyone who gets to watch this from the beginning for the first time, it's unbelievably amazing!)

Blipeuy · 26/11/2023 13:49

Taboo (Netflix, put subtitles on for this they mumble a lot)
The King (Netflix)
The Dig (Netflix, this is beautiful, Ralph Fiennes, set in Suffolk, very slow)
North and South (Prime)

I didn't realise how many period dramas I've binged over the years 😬 but I'd recommend all of them!

Blipeuy · 26/11/2023 13:50

(peaky blinders is on prime)

Nousernamesleftatall · 26/11/2023 15:10

Berkeley Square. The entire series is on YouTube.

TheMarzipanDildo · 26/11/2023 16:53

One of my favourites of all time is Babylon Berlin. Only on NowTV though.

LoserWinner · 26/11/2023 17:01

The Borgias
The Barchester Chronicles
The Pallisers
Upstairs Downstairs
To Serve Them All My Days

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 26/11/2023 22:02

Thank you all for the recommendations! Many of them I've already seen (and agree with)

As I said I'm in Ireland so can't access some of the channels mentioned but I did start watching Cranford and 6 episodes in am completely hooked!

DH has put his headphones on as he's had enough Grin

I've made a note of other shows to watch when I've finished this. Thanks again!

If you haven't seen it already, the French film La Reine Margot from the 90s is fabulous.

Shoppingfiend · 15/12/2023 08:25

Versailles is on BBC iplayer but is prob available elsewhere .3seasons -worth it for the theme tune alone.

Louise303 · 17/12/2023 03:24

Great series really enjoyed it.
