Anyone else watching this?

I loved the 90s version, especially Greg Wise and Carla Gugino, and was really looking forward to the new series. And I've read the book as far as it went. I quite enjoyed the first three episodes but it seems to have jumped the shark quite annoyingly this week. Just wanted to vent my frustration 😀

I've just looked at the trailer. What a surprise, it's going in for the '21st century behaviour in a 19th century setting' thing. Which already feels tired to me. Oh and the compulsory modern soundtrack. How original...

There's definitely a Bridgerton vine but I quite liked Bridgerton so I didn't mind that as such. I'm sorely disappointed with the storyline though.

I didn’t think the girl leaning over the balcony in her underwear or the one climbing down the wall was believable. It’s put me off slightly.

Much to my surprise (I lasted one episode of Bridgerton), I'm enjoying this. Sure, it's deliberately anachronistic, but I think a lot of the themes were genuinely salient then (disclaimer: I haven't read it/any Wharton) and are just as live now.
I tend to look at things like climbing down walls/letting people see them in their underwear as standing in for behaviour that we would see as utterly innocuous now, but which would have been scandalous then.

I will give this week's a shot, I've renewed my apply tv subscription just for this so I'm literally invested 😀

I read the book as a teenager but can't remember any of it. I'm enjoying the series (up to episode 6 now). As another PP said the behaviour/music is to try & emulate have very different the American girls were. I wish I could remember how it ends. I've even bought the book again (99p on Kindle) to see how it fairs against the series.

Just got round to watching the final episode, & was pleasantly surprised. I finished the book over Christmas & was completely underwhelmed & disappointed with it. Had forgotten it wasn't finished & really, other than the characters names there was little similarities between the book & tv series, which I'm glad about tbf.
I've found the tv series much more interesting & engaging. I read that series 2 has been commissioned, so will be interesting to see how it develops & how much of the book is used.
