And not in a good way!

Nchanged89 · 02/11/2023 20:01

I watched it and I'm wondering how staged it is, the ex prisoners have been told to behave as they normally would, buy some of them really do seem a bit unhinged.

Conniethecatapillar · 02/11/2023 21:46

I'm watching this now! I had no idea Sid Owen had such a tough upbringing!

I know, neither did I.

WhiskerPatrol · 03/11/2023 23:01

I thought this was interesting, though I could definitely have done without the arse tobacco. It was definitely grittier than I thought - I wasn't expecting it to look so "real".

The main thing I wondered is about how phones that get smuggled into jail in prisoners' arses and supposedly sold for £10k each can ever be kept charged. Surely you wouldn't be able to put a phone charger up there too? Maybe one of these ones where the plug pins fold flat would work, I dunno. I think we should be told.

Pigeonqueen · 03/11/2023 23:18

I have never felt so sick as I did when I saw the tobacco pulled from his anus. 🤢

I can’t help but think it’s all nonsense. I mean the “prisoners” can just leave, the guards etc and crew won’t let anyone get seriously hurt. 🤷‍♀️

I also feel a bit like there’s an ethical issue or moral one or whatever in that some of the prisoners may become social media / reality “stars” and that doesn’t sit well with me. They’ve done some really awful things.

IFeelSoSoSad · 05/11/2023 11:24

Oh God, it was the grittiest reality tv I have ever seen. It was horrible wasn’t it, so scary. Poor Sid looks like he’s going to be permanently affected.

I think all politicians should have to experience different countries’ prisons to see how best to rehabilitate prisoners.

I have changed my naive mind from purely punishing/deterrent to the necessity of rehabilitation for society’s sake.

I have had my fair share of bad people in my life, but the thought of these types of prisoners are another level. And the fact that many are being let out at the end of their sentence, but not rehabilitated terrifies me. It has kept me awake the first night, and keeps popping into my head.

The scariest thing is the other prisoners rather than the loss of freedom.
I would choose solitary over being in contact with those damaged violent men.

I don’t think that I can watch more episodes, it is too traumatic.

murasaki · 05/11/2023 11:28

I wondered about the ethics of getting allegedly reformed men to act in the way they previously had, might it not affect their future reformation?

Sk8erboi · 05/11/2023 11:38

I thought it was good that it was gritty, this is the reality of prison.

As for worrying about some of the prisoners becoming social media stars, a couple of them already have a social media presence. In this country we believe in rehabilitation, if those people have served the sentence given to them then who are we to judge their future.
I would imagine that all of them are out of their licence period as I can't imagine probation agreeing to them going on.

UndercoverCop · 05/11/2023 11:40

@Sk8erboi none of them are currently under supervision, they are all 'ex' offenders.
I know one of them from work.

Costacoffeeeisbettterthanstarbucks · 05/11/2023 12:31

@WhiskerPatrol the prisoners use the chargers for their vapes

Ramalangadingdong · 10/11/2023 10:58

I started watching and found Sid Owens’s story interesting. But then we were introduced to the ex contract killer and I started to get scared that there are people like that living amongst us. I turned it off and watched Netflix instead.

WhiskerPatrol · 20/11/2023 10:10

Finally watched the rest of this; intense, but fascinating. Enjoyed watching Neil Parish and Peter Hitchens the most - felt like they both went on a real journey, as did Marcus from Gogglebox. Sid/Rickaaaay is just a top bloke, isn't he? Think I could have done without the younger participants.

kneehightoacat · 21/11/2023 14:18

It's a tough watch

It's really unsettled me

ChocolateTVandbaby · 17/12/2023 21:51

I just started watching episode 2.

The cig up the arse was disgusting. And then the celeb whose name I can't remember smoked it!

just seen them pour out the bin on the politician's bed

It seems realistic in terms of ex con's acting the way the might have but then they are still ex-cons so it's not really reality. I can see it was the only way to do it and does give us an insight...
