Why is the picture quality so bad of the old shows? They're not THAT old!

I'm wondering if it's something to do with copyright?

That was the covid year, wasn't it?

Yes the Covid year, so they had no Halloween special. Maybe it was something to do with costumes/make up and social distancing.

I think the programme was filmed in early 2022, as it ended with Rose's win and nothing about last year's series. The Katya and Seann incident was in October 2018 and IIRC it's the last 'scandal' they've had in terms of an affair/cheating claims.

It was. It was a repeat I think - I'm sure it was broadcast last year originally.

They are clearly keeping Angela R in

It's quite obvious they want her to go far, well until Blackpool at least. She always seems to dance in the latter half of the programme and she hasn't had a tricky dance yet. Plus the first and only person to do an AT so far

Kaye Adams was in there as 'Strictly 2022 contestant'

pink970 · 28/10/2023 22:53

Couldn't stand Shirley tonight. The scoring is all over the place in general as well. I felt sorry for Nigel, personally I really enjoyed their dance but what do I know 🤷🏻‍♀️ it's so obviously Layton & Angela R are the faves

GrouchyKiwi · 28/10/2023 22:56

Have caught up after a disappointing rugby final.

Angela R hardly danced. WTF was with Craig's 9?! Does he have a Ron Swanson fetish?

I liked Annabel's tango more than Layton's. Might have been because Johannes can lead, so that worked better. Tango needs a strong leader. She did lose energy and posture halfway through, though. Needs to work on that.

Nigel's was fun, and definitely agree that Shirl needs to stop sticking in the boot.

Loved Ellie & Vito. They're my favourites, and I'm so glad they topped the leader board tonight.

Think it will be Zara v Bobby in the D/O, Zara to leave.

HeadAgainstWall0923 · 28/10/2023 23:15

I was so disappointed tonight. The scoring system seems to have malfunctioned and it just takes away the validity of the whole competition. I’m really not enjoying it this year and I have always loved SCD 😢

Hambleshamble · 28/10/2023 23:46

It feels unfair bc the judges don’t use the same tone with all the couples. Fawning praise for Angela R even tho she sat down for a fair portion of her dance and yet instant criticism and disappointment with Nigel, despite delivering a very competent performance. No level playing field. Annoying.

MouseMinge · 29/10/2023 00:16

I watched on Catch-up because I was out. I was underwhelmed and found it hard to really focus on most of the dances because I was a little bored. I loved Angela S's paso and thought that they were incredibly picky. I was watching her footwork and breathing and it looked pretty good to me but what do I know! I was annoyed by Layton's backflip. Enough of your nonsense. Adam was far better this week and it's clear that his strength lies in ballroom. I liked Annabelle's tango, yes she lost strength toward the end but she was good before that and they did actual dancing! Properly and truly bored by Zara. She's just not very good and she's bad at the acting part as well and is just so dull to watch. I'm wondering if Craig was on glue when it came to scoring Angela R. Her Charleston was dull and didn't deserve all the 8s let alone a 9.

Krishnan was better than I expected. He's definitely improving week on week. I didn't like Bobby's cha cha cha at all. He's sweet, he's endearing but I don't really like watching him. That's on me, not him. I loved Nigel and Katya. The judges are really looking at every tiny intricacy because I thought it looked fab-u-lous and reminded me of how good Katya is at choreography. He has the best hips of all the men in the competition, so they can do one with Bobby's and Layton's. Nigel has real style on the dancefloor and is one of my favourites every week. Ellie was, of course, magnificent and deserved to be at the top of the table. Angela R deserved to be middle table at best.

Costume and makeup did some great work this week but I'm hoping that next week will be better because I really don't want to come away from an episode thinking "I guess that was okay."

lollipoprainbow · 29/10/2023 00:20

Watching the strictly show on channel 5 showed how good it used to be. Very underwhelming tonight all been done before. Costumes boring.

Strictlyfanoftenyears · 29/10/2023 00:46

Well I see Vito in a new light after the above video, bloody hell!!!!!!! The sexiest dancer ever on Strictly IMO!!!

EsmaCannonball · 29/10/2023 01:11

I liked one of the videos but the one where he's in the denim almost ruined Vito for me. He looks like a reject from East 17. He looks like someone who hangs round a depressing precinct, drinking Happy Shopper cider and trying to impress 15 year old girls by jumping on top of bus shelters. He looks like someone who's been banned from every Wetherspoons in Nuneaton. Please let me unsee it.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 29/10/2023 07:39

It was terrible, wasn't it? Grim. I don't know if I imagined it, but the people sitting at the tables around the dance floor seemed embarrassed.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 29/10/2023 07:55

... it reminded me of that very early footage of Boyzone performing in jeans and braces for a slightly dismayed but highly amused audience of middle aged middle England types, before they were famous. (Cringes.)

I know the exact footage you mean 😂

From someone who used to live in Nuneaton about 15 years ago I will certainly be making some time today to watch this video 😂

Figgygal · 29/10/2023 08:37

As much as I love nigel and Katya I'm thinking I'm Ellie and vito for the win

xsquared · 29/10/2023 08:49

I think Ellie has a good chance of winning.

Now that Amanda has withdrawn, the 3rd person in the final can be anyone's. I would have said it was between Nigel and Bobby before but judges scores are all over the place.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 29/10/2023 10:06

The judges scores were a bit random last night.

I'm glad Ellie was at the top of the leaderboard. I thought she and Vito were meant to be Pumpkin Pixies or something similar since they were green and orange and came out of a giant sparkly pumpkin.

They've basically told Layton he'll get 9s for just dancing like he normally does... I actually do think he's coming across quite well, but I think he should be able to work much harder on technique than he seems to be doing because he can pick up choreography etc so quickly. Last night needed more stalking — you should think like a cat in tango — but the heels probably didn't help.

I did enjoy Angela R., but I think she maybe doesn't have the "oomph" in her knees any more, some of the bounces looked like she struggled. Probably a bit overmarked, especially as there were a few mistakes.

I think Zara will go, but who she's against is going to be interesting. I think there are quite a few options depending on who gets the votes.

They'll keep Angela R at least until Blackpool, because that's where she used to present Come Dancing, and I think that would be lovely for her. She is doing an amazing job, very fit and flexible, so good luck to her. Ellie and Vito are my favourites too, they're so cute.
Nana bonus for Layton!

Choux · 29/10/2023 10:17

There are a few press stories this weekend that the celebs are unhappy to be dancing against Layton who has a lot more dance experience than them. I think it is seeing him do that backflip that has tipped them over the edge.

No regular but athletic celeb could learn that over the course of Strictly.

SequinsandStiIettos · 29/10/2023 10:22

Was on a pumpkin patch yesterday so only just caught up.
Poor Graz - I know one year he had to go along with Zombies in the gym nonsense because Judi had been sick so they went with her cha cha but skeletons in the spa?
I thought Nige and Katya had drawn the Frankenstein card (I was made for loving you) so was surprised to see Ellie and Vito all in green. Still not clear on what they were meant to be.
Nor did I think devils went with the lyric "You're my kind". I'd have preferred demons. I had the wrong track in my head to Bobby's cha cha but hated that routine. Jack Skellington and Sally would have made more sense.
No stand out routine for me this year and dubious song choices, given so much that hasn't been done yet on the British version. Boooooo! Wink

There have been several celebs who were gymnasts or had a gymnastic background who could do back flips though - Matt Baker, Louis Smith.
