I am looking for a TV show or film that focuses on the experience of being either

  • mixed race
  • being a child of an immigrant

Preferably the latter. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Have seen Kim's Conveience on Netflix/Prime about a Korean-Canadian family. It's a comedy series around some of the issues between the generations and across cultures.

For what age group?

Isn't there an American one called Mixedish a spinoff of Blackish?

Thanks for the suggestions! Suitable for a 14 year old

You could also take a look at the film 'Blinded by the light' based on the writers life experience. That's PG13 rated

Mixed-ish (and also Black-ish) is so good and perfect for a 14 year old. It's all on Disney+.
There's also One Day at a Time on Netflix.
Never Have I Ever, also on Netflix is about a teenager whose parents came to the US from India, and there's also the brilliant Nora From Queens.

If they'd like something a bit quirky, aimed at younger kids, but absolutely loved by everyone in our house then City of Ghosts on Netflix is a beautiful animated series about children exploring their diverse cultural heritage. I cannot recommend this enough.

East is East is a great film if you haven't seen it.

Fresh off the boat is great too.

We loved black ish.

And enjoyed Blinded by the light.
