Anyone else watching this. I'm really enjoying it in a Last Tango in Halifax kind of way. It's better than Wilderness imo.

I love virgin river!!

EspressoMacchiato · 21/10/2023 19:27

I loved it. It’s like hot cocoa.

I want to live alone in her cabin by the river. It’s so sweet.

Iwillnotdancewiththedevil · 21/10/2023 19:29

It's so bad but you can't stop watching! It's like a Hallmark/Channel 5 Christmas film, all comforting and warm

cheapskatemum · 21/10/2023 20:28

Yeah, my home & work life are tough at the moment, so I don't need too much angst in my viewing.

I don't get how Jack gets away with hitting Brady, who just tells him the truth (as he knows it at the time of the punch). He doesn't even apologise & yet everyone thinks he's the good guy & Brady's the bad guy.

I've been watching this too. I'm finding it oddly addictive.

trader21c · 22/10/2023 00:48

I’m a fan too

Hope is even more annoying in season 5. I didn't think that was possible. I hope that the actress is just a really really good actress and not that irritating in real life because even her voice annoys me.

The weird thing about Virgin River is that the basic plot line is all cosy, toasty, soft, river drifting along and then BANG there is some god awful violence/drugs plot/ war PTSD slammed into it.

I love it.

Hickry · 22/10/2023 20:38

Yes Hope is rather grating. I'm assuming that's the aim and her character is written like that. I really like the actress in other things so I find it "odd" while I'm watching that I find her so unlikeable if that makes sense.

I'm only on season 3 at the moment. I keep being in awe of how many calamities are constantly happening. 🤣

Ooh I envy you. I discovered VR when there was up to S3 so I got a x3 season binge watch but then had to wait.

There is nothing so lovely as discovering something you like late into it so you can ultra-binge.

If you like VR and haven't seen it, highly recommend Hart of Dixie which is on ITV
https://www.itv.com/watch/hart-of-dixie/10a2467?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI3vTE2L-KggMVApqDBx318Qb3EAAYASAAEgLaX_D_BwE

It's almost the exact same plot - city medical professional in emotional distress fleas to a small town medical practice where the dr in charge doesn't want her - and the dr in charge is played by the same actor as Vernon.

Except its much lighter - none of the random traumatic sub-plots of drugs and murder.

I watched VR first and then was looking for similar which is how I found Hart of Dixie but in some ways HoD is better. It's funnier and lighter and more cuddly.

Agh, sorry! Didn't think. Will try and get it removed.

Yes, I don't think I'd keep watching it if it was just cosy and toasty. I like the gritty subplots, and Mel's storyline too, with her trying to come to terms with everything that has happened to her before she headed for Virgin River.

All of the main characters have something from their past that they are trying to get to grips with, and it makes for compelling viewing at times, even though other elements are totally unrealistic - such as the timeline!

Wow - well, no need to watch the current season now.....

DonnaGiovanna · 23/10/2023 11:16

Uh oh, I'm on season 3 too but I chose to click on this thread knowing people would be watching the current season so it's my fault if I get spoiled. What I don't understand is how mismatched the couples are - Jack and Mel have no spark, Lizzy and that terrified looking boy from the diner (sorry, bad with names), just why? As for Doc and Hope - was it just me hoping he would get together with the nice pie-baking classical music- loving lady? The only convincing couple is Brady and Jack's sister but presumably they won't be allowed to last! It's definitely a brilliant comfort watch and I want a Preacher in my home to cook gourmet food and be adorable with the dc.

It's so interesting how different people see different things. I agree with you about Lizzy but she is a chemistry free zone - probably as she is so young as an actress.

I think Jack & Mel have great chemistry - for me it's part of why I like this series. Although I think it tails off as the series go on - probalby like real life relationships!

Brady & Jacks sister I find totally unconvincing. She's a lawyer and he is a total dead beat loser. I just don't think she'd give him the time of day. He's not very good looking either - loooks dirty to me. Urrgh.

I also preferred whathername for Doc - Hope is so SO SO irritating.

Another chemistry free couple that annoyed me are Preacher and the woman with the son in the bakery truck. ZERO chemistry. In relation to their relationship

Spoiler alert re Preacher's relationship....

....

She reappears in a later series and it's even worse. He dumps another woman (he does have chemistry with as an actor) for this pan-faced boring woman who interacts with him like he's her most boring odd job man. It's inexplicable why he dumps her.
