Deadloch

Not a spelling mistake. It's an Australia crime drama and I really have enjoyed it. It is a black comedy so right up my street. It is about murders that happen in a little town where the police force seems so ill equipped in dealing with it.

I'm hoping for a season 2. Its on Prime it you're interested.

It was bloody brilliant!

EraOfTheGrey · 21/10/2023 19:34

Yay someone else watched it. Cath annoyed me but Eddie was so bloody brilliant.

Bit late to the party but Deadloch was excellent! Also found Cath a bit annoying but loved Eddie and Dulcie. The ending definitely set itself up for a sequel so fingers crossed. Would definitely recommend- especially if you like dark humour. Had a bit of a Killing Eve vibe I thought

ICantDoThisRightNow · 28/12/2023 20:30

I loved it - it got better and better as it went through the series

BettyMacdonald · 28/12/2023 20:53

Just came here to see if anyone else has watched this. I’ve been recommending it to all my friends. Really great series and like a pp said a bit of an antipodean killing eve (but a better ending so far)

BigLicks · 28/12/2023 23:24

Absolutely loved it.

martinisforeveryone · 29/12/2023 11:46

Thanks. Will put this on my list 😀

Jumbojem · 29/12/2023 16:04

I enjoyed this and it popped up on a list I saw with 100% fresh Rotten Tomato ratings so we aren't alone in finding out enjoyable.

WinterCarlisle · 29/12/2023 21:39

So if I liked Deadloch what else might I like to watch? Any suggestions please? Love dark humour but not tooooo much overt violence.

Cleary don’t mind swearing as tbh Eddie had nothing on me <blush>

martinisforeveryone · 29/12/2023 22:32

I've discovered I like the Aussie writing, so Five Bedrooms on iPlayer, Katie Robinson who plays Vanessa is also in that. Colin from Accounts, also iPlayer and Prime and Fisk which was on ITVX and Netflix I think. The first is a serial drama with light and shade and the last two are comedy.

Different vibes were two series of Secret City on Netflix and The Newsreader that's recently been on BBC, so now iPlayer

bluedomino · 30/12/2023 00:54

Just finishes it and it was awesome. I nearly had an asthma attack I was laughing so hard. Please let there be a second series.

MockneyReject · 30/12/2023 03:46

We're 20 minutes in to the first episode - and loving it. I hadn't heard of it, or seen it on any listings, so thanks for the recommendation.

I also second Fisk and The Newsreader.

Jbck · 30/12/2023 04:55

Another fan here, thanks for the suggestions Martini will look out for them.

martinisforeveryone · 30/12/2023 10:54

You're welcome. Just to clarify that the suggestions aren't murder mysteries, but they kind of have the same 'tone' if you know what I mean? Irreverent humour and some silly turn of events. I got quite hooked on Five Bedrooms and both the comedy series seemed to be really well received.

I'm two episodes in to Deadloch and looking forward to more.

SgtJuneAckland · 30/12/2023 19:53

@martinisforeveryone I've watched and loved everything on your list other than five bedrooms which I've not seen, definitely going to give it a go now.
There's just something about Australian writing, especially humour at the moment, it's the right amount of dark for me!

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/12/2023 19:57

Sounds good. Will have to look for it on prime

martinisforeveryone · 30/12/2023 20:27

Definitely give it a go then @SgtJuneAckland There are four series. Like so many things it did tail off a bit, but it's well worth it.

KellyMarieTunstall2 · 18/01/2024 17:13

Absolutely loved Deadlock. Excellent writing sooooo funny. I really hope there's a second series.

medicalmysterymachine · 05/02/2024 21:53

This was SO good, I can't believe everyone isn't talking about it.

Properly feminist with an hilarious take on the "murder victims are always women" trope.

Absolutely excellent.

thegirlwithkaleidoscopeeyes · 25/02/2024 18:44

I’m watching fur the second time with dh. He’s hooked too. Very funny and refreshing!

Screamingabdabz · 25/02/2024 18:55

I bloody loved it!

I thought it was very clever to show the fierce diversity of female personalities, ages, body sizes and friendships (and aggravations). Sooo refreshing and affirming.

Fisk is another gem (mentioned by a pp) - clever writing, funny but also so relatable.

It shouldn’t, but it feels so radical to see recognisable female characters that are scruffy, lazy, flawed, funny, resourceful, caring and intelligent just like the women we know and love in our own lives.

FizzingAda · 05/03/2024 20:47

Thanks for the recommend, just finished watching it. Wasn't sure as the first episode was so shouty, but stuck with it. So funny, Midsomer murders meets woke sweary Oz! How great to see so many middle aged unmade up women, real characters. Barking mad plot, but such fun. Loved it.
