Anyone seen this? I’ve been meaning to watch this on BBC iPlayer for some time and now I’ve got round to it. I’m on the third series in some ways I don’t want to get to the end.

it’s beautifully written, beautifully acted with great characters and some sad, poignant moments as well as lots of laughs. I’m watching an episode or two every day.

in a world where there is so much bad stuff going on, it’s wonderful escapism into a charming world - I think I’d quite like to live in Danebury!

Yes
So well written, relaxing to watch, charming

Although I did complain to the BBC about the use of the C word, completely unnecessary. Very enjoyable nonetheless

Yes we watched it all earlier this year. It is lovely.

Strawberrywalnutcake · 03/10/2023 08:42

I watched it for the first time in Jan/Feb when the weather was bleakest and it was so good to be reminded of summer.

I loved the series. What you got? Smile

Cobwobs · 03/10/2023 09:58

It's absolute telly perfection (imo) 😊

murasaki · 03/10/2023 10:01

there's a film too.

Lollygaggle · 03/10/2023 10:02

You have just put the earworm theme tune back in my head.
I didn't think I could like McKenzie Crook any better until I found out that he splurged his first big pay check on a few acres of woods.
I rewatch it when I need lovely, warm hug tv. It's like old friends, bookends.

Cobwobs · 03/10/2023 10:04

There's a film??

mateysmum · 03/10/2023 10:16

It's a series I can go back to again and again. Just lovely comfort viewing.

VestPantsandSocks · 03/10/2023 10:20

Tv perfection.

in some ways I don’t want to get to the end.
The good news is that when you re-watch (and you will!), it never gets stale. It's timeless, like an old friendship.

It’s just perfect - i see something new every time we rewatch!

murasaki · 03/10/2023 10:35

@Cobwobs yes, only about 90 mins but also just lovely, not sure if it's still on iplayer, it was on last Xmas I think.

@Channellingsophistication
There is a 5 page thread in Telly Addicts you might enjoy. Sorry I can't link but if you put 'Detectorists' in Mumsnet search it comes up. Watch out for spoilers!

Channellingsophistication · 03/10/2023 14:41

One of our absolute favourites, love it so much. Make sure you catch the one off Xmas specials too.

Gillstuck · 03/10/2023 15:06

It's all those things, OP. We watched it with our DC, who love it. The youngest is 10 and we didn't mind the occasional swearing, so long as he doesn't start using those words in front of his Granny! I did have to accidentally fall on the fast forward in parts of the second series, when Russell and Hugh were searching for the Mayor's chain of office. I'm not ready for those types of conversations yet.

I hope there's one last Christmas Special to come. We have some ideas Mackenzie, if you need them? Plus Lance's flat was recently up for sale. If I had £250k spare, I'd buy it!

LadyMargaretDevereux · 03/10/2023 15:09

I love it very much, but I find that not everyone 'gets' it - various friends I've recommended it to have found it just a very slow story about boring blokes and haven't seen the charm or humour at all.

My husband and I have always loved this, right from the start.
It is written and acted with such a deft touch.
The comforting story of a friendship based around a shared passion, full of gentle humour. From the evocative signature tune, to the nuggets of wildlife photography to the rare whimsical glimpses of the history of the land and the people who once dwelt there.
Its sublime.

Grrrpredictivetex · 04/10/2023 19:40

Watched it and loved it. Was sorry it finished. Don't be put off by the storyline the characters are charming. So well written and acted.

Beautifully put, and exactly how I feel about the show. I'm having a busy and stressful week, so I am relaxing in the evenings by watching it all for the third time.

FizzingAda · 09/10/2023 21:28

My most favourite TV series. Bought the box set and watch it when the world is going is going mad - so quite a lot then LOL. Absolute perfection. And I love the theme tune, bought that too.
