The Woman Who Bought a School For Her Son
Parents will go to ridiculous lengths to get their children into the right school, but barrister Annabel Goodman, who's a single mum, has gone further than most. When the small private school attended by her sons - teenage Jacob, who has learning and behavioural difficulties, and younger brother Reuben - was threatened with closure, she bought it herself. You have to admire the astonishing energy and dedication she brings to running the place. But with only 14 students (she needs 40 to break even), most of whom are "out of step with the world", it's a tough task. And, although Jacob flourishes, the schooling isn't an out-and-out success. Perhaps most telling of all is Reuben's devastating comment. "She's never been a proper mum," he grumbles. "She's never spent enough time with us."

she's shit at marketing. she needs to push the brand of the school.

theUrbanDryad · 05/03/2008 22:05

i wonder if she's raising money by doing the tv show?

RTKangaDYSONMummy · 05/03/2008 22:10

I can see that it is a good idea but I think she needs to comunicate better with staff and make them feel valued

Hope it works for her and the school succeed

(sorry if you are a MNer Annabelle)

antartica · 05/03/2008 22:15

She seems all over the place! Feel so sorry for her youngest ds - he seems totally shoved out the way.

theUrbanDryad · 05/03/2008 22:18

she needs to learn to delegate...

RTKangaDYSONMummy · 05/03/2008 22:18

Perhaps Rueben would feel happier in another school

I do feel that she is being pulled in loads of directions though

I have just watched this. She is patently bananas. I feel sorry for all the kids (hers and in the school)
