I'm just watching this on iPlayer now, has anyone seen it and can clear something up for me?

Is it that his mum never told his dad the truth about his father either and they (son and the dad that brought him up) both found out at the same time? Or did the dad find out at some point before? Did his mother know 100% that her partner was not his biological dad and not tell him or just have an inkling and kept quiet?

I felt it was kind of unclear. I fully understand it's about his search for his father and this isn't all of it but I'm only at the beginning and just trying to get my head around this bit.

I thought they'd maybe found it at the same time but it felt like they all always 'knew' but no one said anything.

I finished it and found it so sad that he wasn't given the chance to understand his identity during a crucial time when others do, his dad who brought him up was blindsided and everyone seemed to assume he was mixed race anyway. I can't imagine what was discussed behind his back. It didn't seem to cover if his mum had really 100% known all these years and kept it as a massive secret, kind of like his father's experience of not being told about his own dad.

I do hope they've all healed as a family.
