10mins in, what accent is Jenna Coleman suppose to be?
Sounds Welsh at times but then some weird American British hybrid at others.

Supposed to be Welsh but it's not perfect.

klhfd · 16/09/2023 21:21

Ha I had to google it too, and I'm from Wales!

RunningFromInsanity · 16/09/2023 21:29

Why does she have to have a Welsh accent?
Surely her own English accent would have been better if she can’t do Welsh.

iamthattree · 16/09/2023 21:31

I thought maybe it was to highlight the fact she shifted who she was and she was all deep and chameleon like - her accent was much stronger with her mum for example.

Then I though she was just a bit crap with accents

klhfd · 16/09/2023 21:32

I'm assuming the book had welsh characters? Claire Rushbrook's accent wasn't great either, and the Welsh house sets were really unconvincing too, it looked American.

Dropthedonkey · 16/09/2023 22:52

I've just finished it. Will look for a spoiler thread!

RaininSummer · 16/09/2023 23:20

Tried to watch this tonight. Turned it off before end of first episode as just so boring and the soundtrack was ghastly too.

Dropthedonkey · 17/09/2023 17:33

I found it really interesting! I watched it all in two days so I guess I must have

GalileoHumpkins · 18/09/2023 17:57

I gave up after episode 4, I got tired of the awful music, Liv running with earbuds in and Will mumbling every single word.

Wanderingowl · 19/09/2023 07:26

That's five hours of my life that I'll never get back.

tonzer65 · 19/09/2023 23:56

I totally agree about the irritating music and the pointless jogging with ear phones. Luckily I could fast forward the crap bits.

Same.

I don’t know why I stuck with this, because after episode one (which was promising), the rest was terrible.

I thought the acting was bad, especially Will. I’d seen him in Haunting of Hill House, etc, where he was much better.

Liv’s mother was just an awful woman and I couldn’t warm to that character. And Liv’s whispery, drawling Welsh accent was irritating.

So not much to enjoy about this, imo.

AutimnW1nter · 20/09/2023 08:40

Watched it for the scenery. So many holes throughout. The last episode was bonkers. Why would she write down, let alone send the entire story to anyone and wouldn’t it be bloody obvious who actually did it.

AutimnW1nter · 20/09/2023 08:42

Every time Liv’s mum spoke I kept thinking of Nessa out of Gavin and Stacey.

ellebelli · 20/09/2023 10:40

I was looking forward to this mainly because of Jenna Coleman who I have liked in previous series she's been in.
Will(cant 🤔 of his name)was fab in hill house and ok in Blair manor but crap in this(and surface)
pretty little liars Ashley (Hannah)was also crap.
Livs accent annoyed me throughout.
Got two more episodes left...best with wine

Tootingbec · 20/09/2023 16:32

I want to like this but it is annoying me and I think it is a bit shit. It is very slow, Will just keeps saying “forgive me Livvy!” in a tortured voice and the dialogue/set pieces are just cringe.

Although the production values are high it is full of anachronisms that are putting me off as well:

If Will and Liv are meant to be in early 30’s (so fairly early still in their careers) then bloody hell Will must be nailing at work to be given that enormous apartment that must be somewhere in the region of $10k per month to rent!

Why is Liv using headphones from 2009 and not wireless earbuds like 99% of people her age would?

What is with the ludicrous “retro” car with no seatbelts that they have hired? Where would you even go to hire that car?!

Why is Jenna Coleman doing a Welsh accent? Literally adds nothing to the plot.

I could go on!

lazymum99 · 20/09/2023 18:13

I’ve got two more episodes to go and I don’t know if I can be bothered. It is boooorrring

78Summer · 20/09/2023 23:46

Totally unbelievable plot line, and a terrible welsh accent from Liv. I wanted to like it but turned it off. Would need a wine to get through the rest.

AutimnW1nter · 21/09/2023 10:40

The ripping up of her confession into two land leaving it in the street. 😳 All the stuff they got rid of on the laptops would be easily found with somebody trained…..

BeforetheFlood · 21/09/2023 11:00

I've only watched the first episode so far but was already thinking that it's quite a stretch to make killing someone a seemingly 'normal' character's first response to discovering her husband is cheating. This is not the last straw after years of abuse and gaslighting, having failed to get support or to leave. I was so frustrated that she didn't just rip into him verbally and drive off in the car on her own!

I get that they were trying to make it into a sort of black comedy (?) rather than psychological thriller but it feels like a flimsy idea stretched very thin and sold chiefly on its cinematic potential. Hoped it might get better but on the strength of this thread I think I'll leave it there.

IcedPurple · 21/09/2023 21:38

I liked it until about episode 4 but once they went back to New York it got a bit boring and silly. Agree that there's absolutely no way that they could afford that apartment on his salary alone, but in TV land everyone lives in places they could never afford in real life.

I think it would have been better if they'd left it as a slightly far fetched drama with Liv trying to cover up her crimes, rather than a muddled attempt at a psychological drama as it tried to be in the later episodes. The bits with her mum added nothing to the plot and were just a diversion. And Jenna Coleman is gorgeous but she's not a fairly limited actress. She plays the same character in everything she does.

klhfd · 24/09/2023 10:37

This was a good example of something dragged out into a tv series that would have been much better suited to a film, there simply wasn't enough content to justify a 6 part series. Not very much really happens! The marketing is quite misleading as to what the main arc of the story is. Could see the ending a mile off because there wasn't really anywhere else for it to go.

JaffacakeJanine · 24/09/2023 11:59

Throwing glasses

Jogging with earbuds with pop tunez which then turns off when she takes the earbuds out. WE GET IT

Lesbian titillation that led to absolutely nothing

Covering up for the husband over and over despite wanting to kill him the night before? I wanted her to frame him at least based on her past behaviour.
Would have been better if she wanted to frame him, and then realised it would put her under the firing line so decided to cover it up to protect herself.

I was expecting all the clumsy pieces to fall together beautifully at the end and have the AHA moment but nah.

IcedPurple · 24/09/2023 20:24

Also, that last scene was strange. I'm not sure if we were meant to think 'Good on her' at the end? As in, her husband was such a slimy cheating bastard so Liv did well to get her revenge?

It just wasn't well written or acted enough to be a convincing psychological drama.

ellebelli · 25/09/2023 09:24

I thought she looked deranged at the end.
All very odd that she decides killing him is the first step.
I also thought it would be set out in the titular wilderness and be more a game of survival.
All they did was go for a hike that got cut short.
