I'll go first - Intelligence. Got a bit panned but David Schwimmer's great physical acting just made me laugh out loud constantly.

I'm looking for new things to watch but always put off by reviews so looking for some inspiration

I really liked indian Summers. It may have been due to watching it through the nights breastfeeding a new born and the oxytocin! It didn't do so well in reviews. There are plenty of other shows that haven't done so well in reviews (the Guardian don't tend to like anything) that I have liked.

There was a recent show with Sean Bean in about a dreary marriage that critics loved and I found it utterly baffling because it was so awful. It had really jarring music too.

Bump

I came on to say Indian Summers, as well! Was so disappointed when it got cancelled and they had to do a lame rushed ending.

Iamanisland · 07/09/2023 21:15

I was going to say Indian Summers! I loved it and thought it had loads of life left in it when it was cancelled.

PrancerandDancer · 07/09/2023 21:23

I completely forgot about Indian Summers but I agree, the ending didn't do it justice.

I felt the same about the Anne with an E ending, just seemed rush when there was so much still to do.

The new series of V. I was really enjoying it!

ShadowPuppets · 07/09/2023 21:32

We quite liked Intelligence too.

There was a great programme For The People which we loved but got cancelled. I thought it had West Wing type vibes but for legal. Was really sad when it got ditched. Was the first time I saw Rege-Jean Page though (pre Bridgerton) so every cloud..

Dead loch

Am sure there's lots of others, will have to think

That music was so weird and confusing. At first we thought Sean’s character was hearing those words (or hallucinating them) and they’d turn out to be significant to the plot!

Rock Rivals on ITV. A piss take of X Factor with Michelle Collins (?). Terrible and yet glorious in its own way.

Canned after one season.

I liked She-Hulk.

It didn't take itself too seriously, and i'd just finished the Dahmer thing, so was in desperate need of a palate cleanser.

Glamourreader · 09/09/2023 23:30

It was a long time ago but Lost in austen was great

RachelGreensHair · 10/09/2023 09:35

I didn't realise Intelligence got panned!! It genuinely made me laugh out loud. I also loved Episodes that Matt Le Blanc was in, but no one else seems to have heard of it!

Marsyas · 10/09/2023 09:44

It doesn’t really count because it has since been widely critically acclaimed, but when Our Flag Means Death first came out, the Guardian review was pretty “meh”, which surprised me when I watched it https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2023/jan/04/our-flag-means-death-review-a-total-waste-of-most-of-the-best-comedians-in-the-world.

On the other hand the same paper keeps insisting that Henpocalypse is enjoyable, and I watched the first episode based on its review. It really isnt.

Our Flag Means Death review – a total waste of most of the best comedians in the world

This pirate comedy is executive-produced by Taika Waititi and boasts a superb cast of comic greats. So why do they provide none of the proper laughs?

We love Episodes! Did it get cancelled? I have a massive soft spot for Stephen Mangan and will watch anything at all he's in.

I've watched Episodes-loved it!

I liked the Sean Bean, Nicola Walker thing but I made sure to hit the mute button before those horror voices 😱
Came on to say I gave up on the Julianne Moore film 'Gloria Bell' (massively panned) but undeleted and tried it again.
Absolutely loved it and it stuck in my head for ages afterwards.
