Just discovered this on 5 on demand.

Vera looks just the same, and Meg and Erica.

Madge (neighbours) is in it as Mums dd. I remember watching PCH as a young teen, and I'm early 50s.

Ew on episode 5, and Lizzie has stolen surgical spirit from the drs and is drinking it!!!

Oh how amazing! The music ... the sets ... I used to watch this when I was a student, back from the pub rat-arsed, early 1980s?, on late night b&w tv. Adored the theme toon.

maudesvagina · 04/09/2023 21:55

Love it. I went on set when I was a kid and got signed photos and the theme tune on vinyl. Sadly lost them. Lesley Baker was a friend of my mums and her husband at the time was my teacher

PCBH got me through my teenage years! Couldn't wait for 11.40pm 2-3 nights a week when it was on ITV in the 90s. I even watched it the night before a big gcse as it was left on a cliffhanger.

EricaDavidson · 04/09/2023 22:36

I remember it being on meridian (?) And the other channel, (carlton??) but at different timelines (Crawley, W sc)

I had a dial black and white tv my bug sister gave me, and was never sure which one I was watching

I hope they get good viewing figures and run the whole series

Emmelina · 04/09/2023 22:42

Oh wow, my mum was a huge fan and I used to sit up late with her as a teen and watch re-runs!

alpenguin · 04/09/2023 22:46

I used to watch this with my grandfather late at night. I loved how awful it was.

I also loved the musical starring Lilly Savage too.

Hearing it’s still on tv has really made my night

Doingtheboxerbeat · 04/09/2023 23:32

I stayed up late on a Sunday night and watched it with the kids I was babysitting for 😱. I was about 13 and my 4 charges were obviously younger - and we were all addicted to it . Gotta love the 80's 🤭.

As a teen I thought that queen B was ridiculously ott about drug addicts in a prison with obvious killers.

Snoopy1612 · 04/09/2023 23:34

Me too! Now at episode 7......

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 04/09/2023 23:39

Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh I will check it out. Thank you. Grin LOVED this when I first saw it (late 1980s/early 1990s.) All 692 episodes have been on youtube for a few years, (well they were when I last checked last year,) but it's better having them on TV! Smile

PerfectYear321 · 04/09/2023 23:39

Bookmarked

8misskitty8 · 05/09/2023 20:28

When it first aired on itv/stv my mum taped it and we would watch it the next day. I was probably about 10.
They channel 5 got the rights years later and we did the same thing.

Lizzie was brilliant, there are YouTube complications of her ‘lizzieisms’

Bugger me gently !

Discovered these a few nights ago , thrilled to watch again 😁

Rockbird · 09/09/2023 00:21

Ooh dishy Dr Greg must be in it if it's the early ones!

Scary to think he's 74 now!
I saw a photo of Meg and she's 80 something. So many of them have passed away now.

Dobbyatemysocks · 19/11/2023 11:51

I've just found this on channel 5!!

I'm on episode 31!

I also remember staying up late to watch it as a teenager with my brother who was probably around 8/9 years old - we also used to watch V.

I used to do the ironing whilst watching it - I've started doing the same again - although I don't have 15 of my dad's shirts to iron now.

I do kind of wonder what were our parents thinking at letting us watch it as it now has an over 16 rating 🤣🤣

Channel 5 have it available until January 2025.

Can't wait for Chrissie Latham to be transferred back into Wentworth - Bea and the others go nuts! Not to mention poor Meg Jackson.

funbags3 · 19/11/2023 11:53

I watched them all a few years ago. Epic.

8misskitty8 · 19/11/2023 11:53

Channel 5 stopped at episode 79. There’s been no more episodes uploaded for weeks.
Youtube has every episode so now watching on that instead.

Dobbyatemysocks · 19/11/2023 11:57

Nooooooooooooooooooo!!!

There are over 600 episodes - how can they stop at 79?

Will check YouTube later and thank you for letting me know. 😊😊

Getoverit1965 · 19/11/2023 12:02

I re-watched all 692 episodes while finding excuses not to do my uni coursework 15 years ago. Love it. The acting does improve greatly the further through you get, the sets do not though! 🙈It was very ahead of it's time and hard-hitting in terms of some of the issues covered.

Blueeyedmale · 19/11/2023 12:04

All 692 episodes are available on you tube also many on daily motion also

Dobbyatemysocks · 19/11/2023 15:14

Totally agree on the storylines and attitudes/behaviours of the day. I also think it had a lot to do with the fact that it was set in a woman's prison and they didn't pull any punches It covered situations that were only spoken about in whispered conversations or swept under the carpet at that time.

I remember, as a previous poster stated, that it played havoc at school during exam times. It was very impactful in that it gave women a way to discuss things more openly (it did with my family and friends).

That said, it was also really funny, Doreen typing out Lizzie a job release form had me in stitches.

Can I say that I'm also loving some of the clothes and the furniture? Been looking at macrame plant holders this morning - which is annoying as we were taught how to make them at Girl Guides.

Guess YouTube is going to become my best friend in the coming months 🤣🤣

Rummikub · 19/11/2023 15:36

Loved prisoner cell block H.

I also loved the marking of its anniversary on neighbours and they had the original cast members bump into Sheila/Doreen and Susan in the coffee shop.
