Where do I start with Yellowstone?

I’m intrigued by Yellowstone but confused by the existence of 1883 and 1923.

Which do I start with? Does it matter? I understand Yellowstone was made first, will I get spoilers if I watch in date order and start with 1883?

Just start with Yellowstone. That's what I've done and just about finished them all. Will probably then go and watch 1883, although it doesn't really appeal as much as the modern day stuff. And if I like it, will watch the 1923.

Yes Yellowstone first and ignore the hard to follow first episode. I also watch it with subtitles on!

felisha54 · 24/08/2023 22:44

Yellowstone first. Then we watched 1923 and lastly 1883. Should've watched 1883 before 1923. I loved 1883. Great story.

I don't massively like Yellowstone (am preserving) but 1883 was absolutely outstanding and 1923 was very good.

1883

Don't bother with the others for 6 months until the pain has passed

I did Yellowstone and enjoyed it much more than I thought. Great series. Then did 1883 and adored it and am still in therapy and don’t think I’ll ever recover.

1923 however is atrociously bad imho, I wouldn’t even bother with it.

MorrisZapp · 24/08/2023 22:57

1883 is brilliant, has almost nothing to do with Yellowstone, and stands alone as superb television.

Yellowstone is a lavish soap opera, and 1923 is unfathomable.

Yellowstone is terrible. Everything about it is terrible but especially Beth who has to be the worst female character on screen ever created!

happyasaseagullstealingchips · 24/08/2023 23:01

1883 is fabulous

Yeah, probably this to be honest. And after those six months, watch it again

cocksstrideintheevening · 24/08/2023 23:09

Couldn't get past two episodes of Yellowstone, it was shite

mrstea301 · 24/08/2023 23:18

I'm currently on season 4 of Yellowstone, planning to go back and watch at least 1883 when I finish.

It did take me a while to get into it, but I persevered because my dad loved it and went on about it so much. I think it really kicked into a new gear in season 2 - I love Neal McDonough as an antagonist! Really enjoying it now!

Gobolino80 · 24/08/2023 23:21

1883 is outstanding. The last 2 episodes in particular. 1923 is good, it's worth watching for Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford's performances alone. I think Yellowstone is actually my least favourite but still worth watching.

NewYearNewUsername23 · 25/08/2023 08:47

Looks like I’ll start with 1883. Thanks everyone.

I'm glad so many other people loved 1883. I wasn't sure after the first episode but the acting and storyline was superb.

ZombieBeryl · 25/08/2023 11:23

I'm currently binge watching Yellowstone on Paramount Plus. Currently up to the last few episodes of season 3. Thoroughly enjoying it!

Approaching · 25/08/2023 11:38

I don’t think it matters hugely, I can’t recall any big spoilers revealed in any of them. They’re very different genres. I loved 1883 and Yellowstone, for very different reasons. 1923 good, but didn’t reel me in in quite the same way.
