Martin (and maybe Jack) tried to persuade Lilly to have an abortion, not Stacey, who I agree is a shit parent.

This whole story has made me feel uneasy since the beginning and what’s the point other than to point out how useless Stacey is? The scenes with Lily and her baby this week don’t make me think “that’s so lovely”. I think how grim it all is and that the writers have glamourised the reality. There’s nothing to celebrate about a 13 year old having a baby.

Eastie77Returns · 08/09/2023 15:08

Alfie rented a flat from Jack when he was unemployed and penniless and this is a property that you would pay around £1800 PCM to rent here in East London (I know couples who both work FT and cannot afford to rent here) but somehow he managed it.

So Theo doesn’t need an income to live in the Square, anything is possible.

I'm sure those struggling with infertility would have "relished" Karen poking fun at Reiss due to his infertility issues, very insensitive and poor taste EE.

Also in other regards to Reiss I know he's Dot's Great Nephew but where has he been all these years. There's not ever been a mention or anything. A GN relationship isn't that distant is it. Its only your Nans sister. I saw my Great Aunt almost every day. I also thought she only had the one sister and she only had one son Andrew, so. Where did Reiss come from. I suppose we've just got to imagine that Dot had other siblings that were never spoken about.

Lily wasn’t old enough to have sex and then make a decision as momentous as she did. Who in their right mind would support a 12 year old having a baby. They all look so thrilled but the reality is her life is ruined. They must have had no ambition for her to allow the pregnancy to proceed. Grim indeed

Staceys a brilliant loving and approachable mum, however. Her I do agree her Parenting skills need some work.

Didn't Theo tell Stacey he'd got a permanent position at Lily's school (hence the celebration in the Slater kitchen)? Mind you, on the first day of term he was skulking about the square and being interviewed by the police!

Dot def only had one sibling so so it’s odd that everyone just took Reiss at his word when he said he was her great nephew. Sonia didn’t find it strange that someone who had never been seen before or spoken of by Dot randomly appears at her funeral (who told him she was dead?).

No pictures of him and Dot, where is the proof they were related

Sonia is gullible and desperate. Having a child with a man she barely knows. The coma wife will no doubt wake up in the hospital just as Sonia arrives to give birth.

Yes he has a job at Walford High. It's so frustrating that he was let go the investigation was rubbish, are you harrasing ms Slater. NO OFFICER. sorry to have bothered you sir! 😕

Mrsjayy · 08/09/2023 17:24

There is no proof Reiss was related to Dot,

CherryCokeFanatic · 08/09/2023 17:45

Yeah Theo had a job at Walford High now.

He was looking to rent flat 29A which was owned by Jack at one point, not sure if it still is now. The last occupant on the wiki (which may not be completely up to date) is Whitney. Michael Moon lived there for a bit too. Ben and Callum are the neighbouring flat in 29B. I think Stacey and co are literally next door in 31 with Jack and Denise on the other side in 27.

29 Albert Square

Number 29 Albert Square is a house in Albert Square, Walford. No 29 Albert Square was built with the rest of the square in the 1890s. From about 1915 to 1950 members of the Osbourne family lived there, including Harry Osbourne. Harry emigrated in 1950....

the80sweregreat · 08/09/2023 18:12

I actually believe that Reiss is a distant relation ( despite not liking the character much or this business of the money and wife in a coma they never mention now)
They often have people show up from ' family ' ( Stacey and Jean were the same once with the Slaters )

Mrsjayy · 08/09/2023 18:25

I like Reiss but I do think he's up to no good.

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/09/2023 18:28

I did feel for reiss. Karen was loud mouthed as usual but was nasty

OP posts:
the80sweregreat · 08/09/2023 18:31

Karen was an absolute bitch :(
I feel for anyone watching who is having these problems, they wouldn't have said this if it had been a woman contemplating IVF for some reason , I'm sure
(I also hate the term ' Jaffa' too , it's just nasty
)

Mrsjayy · 08/09/2023 20:35

I really thought that was out of character for Karen yes she's "mauffy" 😄 but she doesn't intentionally hurt people's feelings like she did with Sonia and Reiss.

I thought Phill laughing at Ian was hilarious, Ian did deserve that punch.

suzyscat · 08/09/2023 21:03

Hello all, been out of the loop for a while. I think it's totally grim and badly handled with Lily but tbh once the baby's arrived you might as well celebrate and coo. Handwringing isn't going to provide a healthy environment for any of them, a bit of reflection wouldn't go amiss though.

People on the show always talk about what a great mum Stacey is but I've never really understood why? Or why they're all going hungry and live off burnt fish fingers, fishy baksets and sausage surprise when Martin runs stall.

the80sweregreat · 08/09/2023 21:28

Martin did bring veggies round once, loads, but the kids prefer ' yesterdays fish' from Beales or Mc Clunkys chicken or nuggets

Mrsjayy · 08/09/2023 21:49

The adults must eat vegetables Martin will do them a veg box as a minimum.

the80sweregreat · 08/09/2023 22:12

I'm sure that the adults eat the veggies etc.
Although you rarely see anyone sitting down to a hot meal !!

Aha yes I remember that. Wasn't something alon the lines of "your pregnant I can bring you veg to keep you healthy?" I can't remember exactly what he said, but I recall thinking why aren't you doing this all the time?

the80sweregreat · 09/09/2023 05:39

Martin brought veggies round , but later on the same day Stacey ( or poss Jean) turned up with chips for them all in one episode

To be fair, it's a very busy household and they probs don't have the time to cook ( after seeing off psychos and helping a 13 year old give birth etc)

Eastie77Returns · 09/09/2023 08:22

No-one in the Slater family cooks. Stacey occasionally shouts for her other invisible kids to come down for their fishfingers and beans. I suppose it’s to reinforce it’s all a bit chaotic there. I don’t know how such a low income family can afford fish and chips so often. One small portion costs about £9 - £10 where I live.

The only parent who has consistently made meals at home is Ian!

the80sweregreat · 09/09/2023 08:50

Ian has always loved his cheffing skills.
He was a little wannabe Jamie oliver once !
Sharon did cook fish once at Easter .. we all remarked on it on here ! Was years ago.
Phil occasionally is seen frying something , but it's a rare event
Even Stacey's bap stall hasn't been seen lately.
