Silliest 'Friends' storylines

The episode where Joey finds his identical hand twin has to be one of the worst. I'm all for a bit of light hearted sit-com nonsense however this was just daft. He was so excited about it, was going to make his fortune etc but never really established how one would make their fortune by finding someone with similar looking hands!

I know it was Joey and he was quite child-like in ways but there were episodes where he was made to look like a total idiot. The one where he spoke French comes to mind too.

Came on here to say the one where Joey speaks French but I see you've said it Grin I love Friends, it's such a cosy familiar fun, but that one really did rile me up!! Grin

Yes, Joey seemed to get more and more stupid as the series continued!

Matt Le Blanc comes from a French Canadian family too, (but obviously that's not the character).

@LikeAnOldFriend Oh I do enjoy it too - it's always on somewhere and it's long since been my background / comfort noise when I just want a bit of TV company!

The one where Monica thinks Chandler has a fetish for shark porn was a low point.

The rat babies!

Friends is a performance/actor-driven show. It's all about the actors' expressions and performances in silly situations. So not at all out of context. They made him special educational needs in some places, not realistic at all.

The rat babies!

That didn't seem a silly one to me but I have my own (pet!!!) rats.. and also once ended up bringing a stray pigeon home from the stables to look after - so seems less weird to me than it might to most maybe... BlushGrinGrin

Pretty much any of Phoebe’s storylines.

not a silly storyline but it's interesting to track the Joey character from the first series to the last. His original conception was a bit of a player, a bit of a frat boy, popular with the ladies, bit of a lad. No great intellectual, but street smart. By the end he was a childlike doofus.

I thought that was a bit of a shame as I liked the earlier conception of him.

TBH Friends was best before they all got married. Only Fools and Horses was the same. These kind of set-ups work best when the characters are young, single and slightly reckless imo.

Phoebe popping out 3 triplets vaginally with minimal fuss or intervention.

Monica and Chandler not knowing they were having twins until the last minute.

Skinnermarink · 20/07/2023 12:22

Or, more accurately, that Erica was giving birth to twins!

Sux2buthen · 20/07/2023 12:25

Phoebe cat mum

MoonsHaunted · 20/07/2023 12:26

Rachel and Joey dating 🫠

Lilyargin · 20/07/2023 12:28

Anything with Marcel the monkey

WeWereInParis · 20/07/2023 12:30

Wasn't there a story where phoebe thought she had the spirit of a old, recently dead, lady in her, or something along those lines? It was in the episode where Carol and Susan got married.

That was silly.

msmonstera · 20/07/2023 12:31

Joey dating the crazy woman who thought he was Dr Drake Ramoray and just going with it.

Characters often become more exaggerated to one trait as the seasons develop. It’s called flanderization if anyone wanted to look it up.

The french storyline was painful though.

Yep! "Actually, giving birth to three babies is not all that different to giving birth to one." - said no real-life obstetrician, ever.

And throughout my twin pregnancy appointments it was constantly, "Twin 1 this", Twin 2" that - in fact, most appointments started with them asking how those labels had been assigned previously so they could ensure consistency. Zero chance of anyone going through a twin pregnancy not realising what the medical staff were talking about.
