I'm 70 now but I was 30 before I knew that Dame Evadne and Hilda Bracket were men
Hilda was the image of my 'spinster Aunt' and I loved her very much.
Shit, I'm on the memory lane, road to bed now.

I worked backstage on one of their shows they were the most lovely people and were very funny live!

One of them lived a few doors down from DH when DH was a kid. Very lovely people.

It did rankle me somewhat when Paul O’grady died and everyone was saying that he brought drag into the mainstream, like these two never existed.

Not forgetting the late great Danny la rue

I used to love Dame Hilda's "ahhhhhhhh" routine for cleaning her specs while continuing to talk

I never realised they were men either! I was told by my now DH when I was about 19. He still finds it funny I didn't realise!
